Manny Better and Donald Eisen have teamed up to form Better Home Designs.
The company debuts at October High Point Furniture Market in Showplace 2118 with an initial offering of complete media wall systems, theater/cinema cabinets, ladder bookcase walls and executive home office in American market designs and quality. Better Home also will perform single-order total custom work and produce exclusive designs for customers.
Better Home Designs will source goods from four factories in China to its specifications, which include all wood, no resin, hand-rubbed designer finishes, finished backs, dovetail drawer construction, self-closing drawer guides and other quality details.
The company maintains on-site quality control staff to oversee all aspects of production from order receipt to shipment.
Better has more than 30 years in executive positions in production and wholesale furniture sales. Eisen is a 25-year veteran of high-end furniture retail merchandising; and has six years executive level experience in wholesale distribution and eight years as president of a rep group.
"We have spent almost two years developing and testing product and packaging to maker sure our suppliers can produce to our highest standards," Eisen said. Better Home Designs will focus on high-value, margin-friendly pricing; and limited distribution to provide partners with exclusive distribution without competition from Web sites.
The new company also has a goal of being "pro-retailer and pro-rep," offering strong earnings to reps committed to limited distribution, and sales meetings and store service to grow the business. There will be no "house" accounts, and Better Home Designs will offer containers only at first.
"I am an ex-retailer," Eisen said. "Manny and I understand the needs of the retailer. We will not sell the discount stores. We have target customers that we want to build a relationship with. For the first time we can make commitments that we know will be followed. Better Home Designs will not be the biggest. Our goal is to be the best."

Luxury furniture vendor Matsuoka International will debut a line of crystal furniture designed by glass sculptor Stephen Gormley at October High Point Market.
Furniture and Art by Stephen Gormley for Matsuoka, will include custom made to order consoles, cocktail, occasional and dining tables in any geometric shape and size needed to fit the customer's desired space. Matsuoka's new High Point showroom is IHFC-Interhall 411.
Master sculptor Stephen Gormley has been fashioning fine art for more than 30 years. Crystal sculptures from his studio in Thailand appear in the Casino Deauville and Paris Urban Gallery in France; the Chutney Mary Restaurant in London; Doral Spa in Florida; Peninsula Hotels in Hong Kong, Singapore and Bangkok; Ritz Carlton, Regent, Grand Hyatt and Hyatt Regency Hotels; Diamond Resort in Maui; Beverly Hills Nikko; Lexington Hotel in New York and many other hotels, restaurants, resorts, spas and luxury cruise lines around the world. His commissions often are multi-ton behemoths of grand scale and monumental proportions, festooned with flourishes of magnificent fountains and spectacular lighting. Gormley's inspirations also include masterpieces of smaller scale that ornament lobbies, offices and homes as cherished and valuable collectibles as well.
"We are extremely gratified to partner with an artist of the stature of Stephen Gormley," commented Kevin Reilly, president of Matsuoka International. "His unique understanding of the medium of crystal and the spectacular, luminescent quality of his designs dovetail exceptionally well with the tradition of excellence which is Matsuoka. Stephen is an artist of sublime inspiration. The culture of his company assures that this work is fashioned in an environment which respects the craft as does our own. We look forward to a long and deeply satisfying partnership which will allow our company to collaborate extensively with Stephen's atelier both to share Stephen's genius and to continue to showcase Matsuoka's enduring aspiration for high artistic achievement to the world. ... Gormley began experimenting a few years ago with furniture and accessory art as a sculptural discipline and is without a doubt a virtuoso of supreme accomplishment and enduring contribution to the artistic legacy of the late 20th and early 21st centuries."
Matsuoka International is the global marketing arm of Matsuoka Kagu Seizoh, a Fuchu City, Japan-based manufacturer of heirloom furniture for the luxury market.
