Woolrich Adds Pet Beds

By Home Furnishings Business in licensing on January 7, 2011

Outdoor apparel manufacturer Woolrich has added PM&J pet beds to its list of home furnishings licensing partners.

Woolrich, Pa.-based Woolrich and PM&J's new line will debut at the March 16-18 Global Pet Expo in Orlando, Fla.

"PM&J's pet line is designed to blend with the nature-inspired decor that Woolrich Home is known for," said Sharon Kepley, licensing manager of home furnishings for Woolrich. "We have been successfully working with PM&J in Europe for the past few years and will now add their pet products to our U.S. collections this spring and beyond."

The beds are created to not only be attractive additions to a room but also provide supportive comfort for pets. Three sizes fit small to large pets and are covered in popular Woolrich fabrics such as buffalo check and plaids, herringbone patterns, and sherpas. Leashes, carriers, and pet apparel will also be available later this year.

Retail prices range from $9.99 to $59.99. Woolrich pet beds will be available at retail in late summer/early fall 2011.

The PM&J pet bed line complements Woolrich€™s existing brand partners and their products, which include: JLA Home top-of-bed, textile wall art and pillow; Lynn Haney Collection handcrafted Santas; Mohawk Home floor coverings; Picture Source wall art; Rowe Pottery Works handcrafted pottery and garden decor; Shadow Mountain casegoods; Shady Lady handcrafted lighting and accessories; and Whitecraft indoor and outdoor furniture.

"We are very excited to be expanding our relationship with Woolrich into the U.S. market," said Cynthia Eicher, general manager for PM&J. "Our products will fill the need for high quality pet products that also look good in homes furnished in the outdoor lifestyle that Woolrich represents."

Havertys 4Q Sales Dip 0.2%

By Home Furnishings Business in Financial Reports on January 7, 2011 Atlanta-based furniture retailer Havertys (NYSE: HVT) reported fourth-quarter 2010 sales of $162.1 million, a 0.2 percent dip from the prior-year period.

On a comparable-store basis, however, sales for the quarter increased 1.9 percent. Total written business for the fourth quarter of 2010 rose around 3.2 percent over the same quarter of 2009.

Full-year sales for 2010 increased 5.5 percent to $620.3 million, versus $588.3 million in 2009. On a comparable store basis, sales increased 7 percent for the 12 months.

"We are pleased to record our fifth consecutive quarter of positive comparable store sales," said Clarence H. Smith, president and chief executive officer. "The fourth quarter of 2009 had marked the beginning of renewed interest by consumers in making big ticket home furnishings purchases. Our sales during 2010 reflected the uneven pace of the slow economic recovery marred by low job creation and a weak, often back-tracking, housing environment. We are off to a good start in January after a successful New Year's sale. For the first half of 2011 our comparable store sales will be measured against last year's rebounding 11.6 percent increase. Producing more than modest top line improvements will be difficult for this year, but we expect our customer-focused initiatives will help solidify our competitive position."

Havertys is a full-service home furnishings retailer with 118 showrooms in 17 states in the Southern and Midwestern regions, and carries merchandise in middle- to upper-middle price ranges.

By Home Furnishings Business in Las Vegas on January 7, 2011

The Western Home Furnishings Association's World Market Center Las Vegas Retailer Resource Center is moving to a new showroom in Building C.

The new showroom, located at C-488/496, has more than 12,000 square feet and will offer buyers expanded resources, an enlarged seminar room, Internet and charging stations, business services tradeshow, and the brand-new Buyer's Club, providing retailers with a quiet place out of the sales environment, where they can enjoy a complementary continental breakfast, coffee, afternoon lite-bites, beer and wine.

"Our new location in C-488/496 is conveniently located between the escalators, elevators and Building B breezeway, which makes it easily accessible for all buyers," said WHFA Executive Director Sharron Bradley. "There is a lot of buzz about the new space and we are excited to be able to expand the services we offer retailers during busy Market weeks. Our seminar room can now accommodate over 100 retailers and the business services tradeshow is sold out. It is even easier for retailers to find education and services to save their business money."

To celebrate the opening of the new showroom, the RRC will hist an Open House 4-6 p.m., Monday, Jan. 24. Retailers in attendance can enter to win an iPad, Visa gift cards and an all-expense paid trip to San Antonio Texas for the 2011 Home Furnishings Industry Conference.

According to a release, the company said Cook resigned his post. Stephens has been Broyhill's vice president of sales and marketing since 2007.
