Raymond Waites Joins K.F. Dischley for Film Set Design

Award-winning home fashion designer Raymond Waites has joined film company K.F. Dischley Group to lead its new set design and decoration department.

"From wall coverings to everything else under the roof of a home, Mr. Waites has excelled as one of America's great designers," said Lee Andrew Myers, KFD chairman and chief executive officer. "We are honored to welcome Mr. Waites to our company."
 
Waites' first responsibility is to create an infrastructure for KFD's set design and decoration department and oversee the building of sets for four film projects slated to begin production in March 2011. Waites will bring his creative talents to "find Me." a feature film directed by Scott Pendarvis and produced by Myers; and also "i text U," a feature film directed by Myers and to be filmed in High Point. Following "i text U." Waites will focus on "Summer Camp" and "Wednesday the 11th," both of which are currently in development
 
The addition of KFD's set design department is the result of the company's rapid growth in the entertainment industry.
 
Waites will continue to develop his own brand of home furnishings products and serve as CEO of New Vintage Gallery, an innovative design company that supplies home furnishings to clients around the world.

Waites€™ designs have sold well over $4 billion dollars in all areas of the home furnishings industry. Based in High Point, the internationally renowned designer is known for his use of color and settings in showroom and residential design. He has won numerous awards, has written six books, and heads a scholarship fund through the International Furnishings and Design Association, a national trade association that represents furnishings and design professionals.

Palecek Opens LVDC Showroom

High-end casual furniture vendor Palecek has opened a 2,500-square-foot Las Vegas Design Center showroom.

The Palecek showroom, WMC-A132, adjoins the new, multi-line LMS Design Group showroom in World Market Center's LVDC, and LMS Design Group staff will operate Palecek between the biannual Las Vegas Furniture Market.

"Palecek is excited to unveil our new, permanent showroom in Las Vegas Design Center in time for the January 2011 Market," said David Beld, vice president, sales and marketing with Palecek. "As we break ground in our new space, we at Palecek are eager to develop with Las Vegas Design Center and take advantage of the growing West Coast market. The opportunity to showcase our products at World Market Center will allow Palecek to expand its West Coast presence. Palecek is thrilled to be part of the growth of World Market Center Las Vegas."

Palecek got its start 35 years ago in the San Francisco Bay Area. Palecek has expanded to include wood, wicker, rattan and metal furniture, domestic upholstery and finishing, lighting, wall décor, textiles, accessories and gifts. Palecek's domestic manufacturing headquarters is one of the largest employers in Richmond, Calif.

"While Palecek has grown, it has maintained a steady, tangible connection to its roots in woven basketry," said Randy Wells, vice president, Las Vegas Design Center. "There is a link to that core competency of woven natural materials that is visible in everything Palecek creates. The result is a beautiful product line and a terrific, unique brand. Simon Pearce to Close Pa. Location

Vermont-based designer and retailer of glass, pottery, tabletop accessories and furniture Simon Pearce will close its West Chester, Pa., location.

The location's restaurant and glassblowing workshop closed Wednesday, but the retail store will sell "seconds" at 30 percent off before closing Feb. 13.

Simon Pearce, and company President Rob Adams made the announcement to the team at the West Chester location this morning.  Mr. Pearce remarked, "The decision to close our facility in West Chester has been an extremely difficult one," said President Rob Adams. "We care deeply about the people who have worked so hard to provide a great experience for our customers, but after 10 years we know that this decision is the right one for our business."

The decision was made in large part to allow the company to further focus on its core business, producing and marketing hand-blown glass, handmade pottery and unique home accents and furnishings.

While no immediate plans were announced, Simon Pearce plans to continue growing existing retail partnerships in the area while cultivating new partnerships with independent retailers.
