ART Conference 2012, sponsored by Accessories Resource Team (ART) to be held on May 17-20, 2012, in New Orleans has contracted an additional block of hotel rooms with
Iberville Suites as overflow during the dates of the conference.
Iberville Suites shares the same building with the
Ritz Carlton and is located at 910 Iberville Street. All seminars and conference functions will still be held in the Ritz function space. Iberville is conveniently located allowing the attendees to have convenient access to all functions. The contracted rooms are traditional suite style with distinct living and sleeping areas for $169 a night.
Celebrating the 20th association conference this May, registrations have been brisk; however, there is still availability and registrations continue to be accepted. Casual furniture vendor
Agio International Co. will exhibit at next month's
High Point Market in Showplace.
Agio will exhibit in an 1,834-square-foot showroom in Showplace, space 1512. In addition, Agio will provide outdoor sets for attendees at the Sunset on 3 hospitality events being held on Showplace's third-floor balcony during market.
"We are coming to High Point because we know there are indoor retailers who are ready to enter or expand their offerings in the outdoor casual category," said Bob Gaylord, president. "If an indoor retailer is ready to make the jump into outdoor, or increase their offerings in the category, we want to be there to discuss the opportunity with them. High Point provides a perfect venue to introduce ourselves and our line."
Casual furniture and accessories are steadily strengthening their presence at the High Point Market, with at least 50 companies offering products in these categories at the spring show. Among the producers showing outdoor furnishings are well-known names such as
Barlow Tyrie,
Brown Jordan,
Lane Venture,
Lloyd/Flanders,
Telescope and
Woodard.
"We have seen more and more traditional furniture and home décor retailers coming to High Point specifically looking for products to enhance their offerings in the outdoor/casual segment," said Julie Messner, vice president of leasing for
International Market Centers. "In turn, over the last few years we have seen an influx of casual manufacturers showing in High Point in order to reach this distribution channel."

On Monday morning of the conference, Capo and Tiwari will share their unique perspective of coming from immigrant families that built home furnishings empires. The story of El Dorado Furniture dates back to the 1920s in Cuba and includes fleeing from Castro's regime, to becoming the largest Hispanic furniture retailer in the country. Tiwari's father, Surya, brought his company into the United States in 1986, and today Surya Rugs not only manufacturers rugs, but also creates an assortment of handcrafted pillows, throws, fine art pieces and a variety of table and floor lamps.
Tuesday morning starts off with Miller and Cochrane sharing how their own companies have "Gained the Edge" and overcome challenges. Boston-area furniture retailer Jordans Furniture has led off with its 2012 "Monster Hit" promotion.
If a Red Sox player hits the Jordan's Furniture baseball graphic on the centerfield sign during any regular season home game between July 16 and September 26, a Jordan's customers purchasing after March 21 will get their entire purchase for free.
There is no limit on the amount of furniture and the selection of furniture.
Even if the Sox don't make the hit, Jordan's will distribute to all customers who purchased within the promotional period a Monster Hit Coupon worth 20 percent of the total purchase, good toward a future purchase.
"This is a great deal," said Eliot Tatelman, president and CEO of Jordan's Furniture. "And we bought insurance. That way, we're rooting for the Red Sox to make the Monster Hit, too, so that all our customers win free furniture."
