High-end furniture vendor Marge Carson has settled a lawsuit against
Philippe Langdon Furniture.
The lawsuit, which
Marge Carson filed in Federal Court in Greensboro, N.C., in December, alleged the intentional copying of numerous original designs and design elements found in several successful Marge Carson collections, including Bordeaux, Les Marches, Pacifica, Palladian, Perugia, Segovia, Umbria and Vouvray.
When asked about the settlement, Marge Carsons CEO, Jim La Barge, stated, "We are pleased to announce that we have reached an amicable settlement with Philippe Langdon concerning the litigation," said Marge Carson CEO Jim La Barge. "Marge Carson vigorously defends its intellectual property rights, and we are happy that the parties in this lawsuit could reach a resolution."
Marge Carson Inc., based in Rosemead, Calif., is a full-line vendor upholstery and casegoods. Philippe Langdon, Chino, Calif., designs middle to upper-price point case goods for sourcing in China.

Mattress manufacturer Comfort Solutions has promoted Dan Thigpen Jr., Glenn Kobylarczyk and Ken Swinarski to newly created vice president positions at the company.
Thigpen and Kobylarczyk, who have served as directors of sales technologies and sales education specialists since 2010, have been named vice president of business development.
In his new post, Thigpen will focus on driving Comfort Solutions business through marketing and branding projects, as well as related technology applications. He reports to Cindy Williams, newly appointed senior vice president of marketing. Kobylarczyk will concentrate on sales, account development and services, reporting to David Binke, executive vice president of sales.
Swinarski, who joined Comfort Solutions in 2008 as director of marketing services and has been company creative director since 2010, has been named vice president of creative services. Swinarskiwill focus on overseeing and managing the companys creative projects and will have increased responsibility for corporate and customer presentations. He reports to Williams.
"We've made tremendous advancements as a company over the past few years and it's equally important that we advance our staff and resources as we continue to move forward," said Dave Roberts, president and COO of Comfort Solutions, Willowbrook, Ill. "Dan, Glenn and Ken have been instrumental in helping us realize many of our strategic objectives and were extremely pleased to announce their well-deserved promotions and new responsibilities."

Rustic furnishings vendor AntlerWorx is moving to a new showroom in
Showplace, for the April 21-26
High Point Furniture Market.
The White Oak, Texas-based company, which had been showing in a temporary space in High Point for several years, will use the new 905-square-foot space, Showplace 3424, to showcase a sampling of its most popular furniture and accent items, said Shaun Baker, owner.
The company's line features a wide selection of antler-accented furniture, including dining and occasional tables, beds and dressers, hall trees and chairs. The choice of antlers includes elk, moose, mule, whitetail and fallow horns.
"High Point has always been a very successful market for us," said Baker. "We expect this new showroom will attract a number of retailers we haven't seen before."
AntlerWorx sells its furnishings through a mix of rustic home furnishings specialists, high-end furniture stores and designers.
"We have picked up a lot of new business during this tough economy," Baker said. "We nearly doubled our sales last year and we expect more of the same in 2012."
This market, AntlerWorx will be expanding its upholstery offerings with a new transitional line. The pieces, which include side chairs and arm chairs, combine aspen wood in a new washed finish with leather and elk antler accents.
Other products in the company's line include rustic lighting, accessories, mirrors and signs.

Dallas Market Center has
launched its first blog, "Know It All," its Web site.
The blog serves as a new channel for the Market Center to share retail and business tips, product features, trends, expert advice, inspiration, industry information; create an online community where information can be shared year-round.

A Houston man awaiting trial to face charges of setting fire to a Gallery Furniture store was ruled incompetent and will be shipped to a state mental hospital. The Houston Chronicle reports that , 69, will remain in hospital until he is competent to stand trial. Gillham's attorney said his client has a non-malignant brain tumor that is seriously affecting his motor skills, as well as his speech and hearing.
