In his new position, Klassen has overall responsibility of the creative interiors division and reports to Mark Wiltshire, president, Furniture Brands special markets. Klassen has many years of experience in the furniture industry, having worked in both manufacturing /direct sourcing and retail. Most recently, he owned his own staffing company which specialized in the hospitality industry. He also was with Dorel Industries for 10 years serving as president of Ameriwood Industries and COO of Ridgewood Industries.

A Houston man awaiting trial to face charges of setting fire to a Gallery Furniture store was ruled incompetent and will be shipped to a state mental hospital.
The Houston Chronicle reports that Robert Carroll Gillham, 69, will remain in hospital until he is competent to stand trial. Gillham's attorney said his client has a non-malignant brain tumor that is seriously affecting his motor skills, as well as his speech and hearing.
"He's got a growth between his brain and his skull that's pushing down into his brain that's causing significant cognitive defects," Gillham's attorney told the court.

High Point Furniture Industries announced on its Web site that co-founder and board chairman Harry Samet died today. He was 80.
Samet, a 1953 UNC-Chapel Hill graduate, served as president of Bnai Israel Synagogue for several terms and on various boards, including City of Hope and Industries of the Blind, according to his obituary.
