Merinos Home Furnishings to Open 2nd Phase

By Home Furnishings Business in Furniture Retailing on May 23, 2012

Phase 2 of Merinos Home Furnishings in Mooresville, N.C., will open Memorial Day.

The first phase of the retail operation opened last May in an abandoned Burlington Mills property. The new part of the retail campus will feature two buildings with four additional acres of furniture, rugs and décor. The new property takes Merinos total space to seven acres.

As part of Phase 2, Boyles Furniture will open a 30,000-square-foot, loft-style warehouse space in the Merinos complex. Their new store is called Boyles Furniture Direct. New shipments will fill the Boyles showroom over the next 60 days.

Brands added to the mix with the addition include Thomasville, Broyhill, Klaussner, and others with a focus on furniture made in the United States.

The new space also features youth furniture, office furniture and casual furniture.

In September, Michael Bay, owner, plans to add a 120-seat pizzeria with wood-fired brick ovens from Italy.

Plans also call for a 27-acre complex with artisans on site producing custom, designer furniture and a European design center devoted to helping European clients select furniture and other pieces for shipment home.

"We've created Merinos to be a fun destination that visitors to our area will make a point of seeing, along with the city's racing shops and other attractions," Bay said.

By Home Furnishings Business in on May 23, 2012

Art Van Furniture opened its sixth freestanding PureSleep store earlier this week in New Hudson, Mich.

"People are really starting to appreciate what good mattresses do for them," said David Van Elslander, vice president of Art Van PureSleep. "We love being able to inform our guests about the importance of a good night's rest, and to provide them with the products they need to achieve that."

Art Van PureSleep takes the guesswork out of finding the right mattress with a computer diagnostic machine that matches each person to the right mattress. In addition to the 1-2-3 bedding process, Art Van PureSleep experts stress the importance of proper pillows for correct spinal alignment, as well as a good mattress protector to safeguard the investment.

Art Van has invested more than $6 million in training nearly 1,000 employees and opening 38 Art Van PureSleep stores. Art Van PureSleep is in all 34 Art Van Furniture showrooms with freestanding stores in Ann Arbor, Canton, Troy, Rochester Hills, and Brighton.

Diamond Mattress Introduces Gel Line

By Home Furnishings Business in on May 23, 2012

Bedding supplier Diamond Mattress is rolling out its CoolTouchGel line aimed at giving retailers a competitive pricing option in gel memory foam mattresses.

Starting retail prices for the company's new line will be $999 for a queen.

"Our mission is and has been to provide retailers with engaging and innovative mattress designs of better quality than those offered by the major brands, but at real and recognizable values that attract shoppers," said Shaun Pennington, vice president. "Considering the quality components in these new beds, their aesthetic appeal on the sales floor and their industry-leading 25-year warranty-all at 30 percent less cost to the retailer-the CoolTouchGel line more than meets the objectives of our company mission," he said.

The line features premium, fully ventilated, open-cell CoolTouchGel memory foam infused with gel beads for added support and cooling.  This layer is at the top of the bed and not buried under layers of material.

"We think of the effect of this design as 'The bed and body as one,'" Pennington said. "By bringing to the very top of the mattress those premium components that factor most in delivering a great night's sleep, we can promise maximum pressure relief, superior comfort and no sagging or body impressions."

CoolTouchGel models, which also feature Eco-Flex foam cores, are available in 10.5- and 12.5-inch mattress heights. The beds can be used with adjustable bases or with Diamond's hardwood foundation.

Designed to attract shoppers on the sales floor, the collection has stretch knit covers in a white sculpted floral, accented with bands of upholstery-grade, tan-colored fabric on the borders. The covers are skin-friendly and pass Oeko-Tex Standard 100 testing for harmful materials.

The line is backed by a range of in-store support materials including coordinated top-of-bed dressings, brochures, banners, demo units and display inserts.

The 2012 ICFF Offers Good, Great and Awesome

By Aggregated Content in on May 22, 2012 from http://www.examiner.com/article/the-2012-international-contemporary-furniture-fair-the-good-great-and-awesome As New York Design Week continues with great momentum, I decided to head off to the 2012 International Contemporary Furniture Fair for some visual stimulation in design. I must say that this show seems to get better with age as many of the participants wasted no time showcasing their best products. Though there was no official directory for guidance (at least others and myself couldn€™t find it), I was determined to discover amazing finds that would excite the design senses. I truly wish I could list each and every piece I encountered that made me say, €œoh that€™s great€
