Bob's Discount Furniture, American Red Cross Continue Scholarships

By Home Furnishings Business in on September 19, 2012

Bob's Discount Furniture and the American Red Cross plan to continue the retailer's $100,000 High School Heroes Scholarship Program for 2012-2013.

The popular program awards $100,000 in scholarships each school year to outstanding high school seniors in Connecticut and Massachusetts who make exceptional contributions to the American Red Cross blood donor program in their schools. Since its origination in 2009, the program has distributed $300,000 to more than 500 students in more than 300 Connecticut and Massachusetts schools.

"It is an honor to be able to continue offering this scholarship as an opportunity for students to help the American Red Cross save lives, because to give the gift of life is the ultimate gift," said Bob Kaufman, president of Bob's Discount Furniture. "We have partnered with the American Red Cross for more than 15 years because it is a great way to give back to all the communities and individuals that have made us successful."

Students who host at least two high school blood drives per year and achieve an annual participation rate of at least 30 percent of the age-eligible student population are qualified to win a base scholarship of $250. They are also eligible to win additional scholarships, including up to eight $1,000 grand prize scholarships per winning school.

"The Bob's Discount Furniture $100,000 High School Heroes Scholarship Program enables high schools to make a vital contribution to the community while providing the opportunity to give much needed scholarships to youth leaders who support the American Red Cross blood program," said Donna. M. Morrissey, director of communications, American Red Cross Northeast division. "The American Red Cross is grateful to Bob Kaufman and the Bob's Discount Furniture Team for empowering our valued high school students who are taking a leadership role helping the Red Cross make a difference in the lives of patients.

Euro Style Doubles High Point Presence

By Home Furnishings Business in High Point on September 19, 2012

Contemporary home furnishings vendor Euro Style has doubled its showroom space for Oct. 13-18 High Point Furniture Market.

The company, which had been in four separate locations on the International Home Furnishings Center€™s fifth floor, is now exhibiting in a 14,067-square-foot showroom in space 332 of the IHFC€™s Commerce wing.

In addition, Siedo Solutions, Euro Style€™s Italian product development partner, is showing in an adjacent, 7,098-square-foot area in space 354 of the Commerce wing. Siedo will feature a variety of contemporary-styled leather furnishings.

€œWe are very pleased that this new, larger showroom became available,€ said Trig Liljestrand, president of Euro Style. €œWe€™re now in a very accessible, centrally located spot at the top of the escalator from the Commerce wing lobby on the third floor of the building.€

Liljestrand, whose company has shown in a number of High Point locations over the years, added that €œit is clear to us that the IHFC building is not only the most conveniently located building, it also is the best-managed building.€

According to Liljestrand, Euro Style needed more space to properly display the many new collections it has introduced over the past few years. Recent introductions include the addition of a new division--Euro Style Contract--that serves the hospitality trade and other contract customers. In addition, he said, the company has added several new fabric sofa collections designed by Stanley Jay Friedman €œthat have been doing exceptionally well.€

At February€™s Las Vegas Furniture Market, Euro Style also introduced its first outdoor furniture program. The line is being expanded in High Point with two new collections--Gazelle and Lavinia. These collections will be available for factory-direct shipping immediately, or in smaller quantities from the company€™s warehouse starting in March of 2013.

In High Point, Euro Style also will show a number of new home office, dining, bar and occasional collections.

The new showroom has been designed by Anna Jolly, Euro Style€™s Greensboro, N.C.-based visual merchandiser.

Each day during Market, Euro Style will serve lunch at noon and wine in the late afternoon and early evening. It also will serve espresso, San Pellegrino water and Carlsberg Elephant beer throughout the day.

€œWe are very excited about Euro Style€™s move to this larger, premier space,€ said Julie Messner, vice president of leasing for International Market Centers. €œThe move shows the important role that the High Point Market plays in the marketing strategies of growing companies.€

Based in San Rafael, Calif., Euro Style works with more than 20 factories in five countries to develop and source its line. The company€™s warehouse is located in Union City near San Francisco and the port of Oakland.

Liljestrand added that former Sitcom executive Dobee Snowber has joined Euro Style as director of operations and human resources, a new position.
