On Sept. 30, WAC Lighting employees will retrace the footsteps of firefighter Stephen Siller through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to Ground Zero on Sept. 11, 2001.
They will follow that route as they participate in the Tunnel To Towers Run is a Memorial Tribute to the memory of the heroic life and death of Siller, The Fire Department of New York City, all 343 firefighters, and all first responders who sacrificed their lives that day, and all those who perished on 9/11.
On Sept. 11, 2001, Siller had just gotten off the late shift at Squad 1 in Park Slope, Brooklyn in New York City. He was on his way to play golf with his brothers when his scanner told of the first plane hitting the Twin Towers. He called his wife, Sally, to tell her he would be late because he had to help those in need. When Stephen drove his truck to the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, it was already closed to traffic. With 60 pounds of gear strapped to his back, he began his run through the tunnel, hoping to meet up with his own company, Squad 1.
The proceeds from the WAC team will go toward the Tunnel To Towers Foundation to help provide support for our seriously injured service men and women. The sole purpose of the Foundation is to honor the legacy of Siller and the FDNY. The Foundation has established In the Line of Duty programs for Firefighters, First Responders, and Military and Legacy of Love programs to make a lasting and positive difference in the lives of children who have lost one or both parents.
