KHF Opening 5th Ashley Furniture Homestore

By Home Furnishings Business in Store Openings on March 2, 2011

KHF Holdings will hold a grand opening Saturday for its fifth Ashley Furniture Homestore location, this time in Castleton, Ind.

Chris Caprio, president and CEO Louisville-based Ashley licensee KHF Holdings noted the company been fortunate enough to buck the trends of the troubled economy and expand its operation.

"We realize we wouldn€™t where we are today without our loyal customer base and for that, we are thankful," he said. He also looks for the economic recovery to also fuel a continued upswing in home furnishings. KHF Holdings is committed to grow with and help sustain the regions in which they operate.

"We are pleased to have generated about 25 new retail jobs as we launch the store€™s operations," Caprio said. Overall, KHF's workforce totals almost 160 employees.

Ashley Furniture Homestores have been locally owned and operated in Louisville since 2004 and in Indianapolis since 2005.

The Castleton store returns KHF to the northern Indianapolis market after it closed an Ashley Furniture Homestore in nearby Carmel almost a year ago.

"We couldn€™t be more excited to once again open our doors to such a great community," Caprio said. "Shortly after our liquidation sale in Carmel we began looking for a new location in the area. We plan to offer a slightly smaller showroom and open the space in two phases to keep our products fresh."

Phase 1 of the Grand Opening will carve out a 20,000-square-foot showroom of Ashley furniture, home decor and mattresses. The second phase of the Grand Opening will add an additional 15,000 square feet of showroom to display more product and give customers an opportunity to have a great furniture selection and positive furniture experience closer to home.

KHF Holdings' current locations include Outer Loop/Jefferson-Pavilion, Ky.; Jeffersontown, Ky.; Avon, Ind.; Greenwood, Ind.; Castleton, Ind.; and an Ashley Furniture Distribution Center.

Aminy Audi Will Keynote Prayer Breakfast

By Home Furnishings Business in High Point on March 2, 2011

Aminy Audi, CEO and president of iconic American furniture brand L. & J.G. Stickley, will keynote the 17th Annual Furniture Fellowship Prayer Breakfast.

Audi will present her reflections on "Faith, Family and Furniture-A Life Journey" at the event, scheduled on the eve of High Point Furniture Market, 7-8 a.m., Friday, April 1, in the Ballroom of the International Home Furnishings Center.

In the early 1970s, the once proud and distinguished Stickley, founded in 1900, was on the verge of bankruptcy and had only 25 employees remaining. In a leap of faith and determination to rejuvenate the company, Aminy and her husband, Alfred, purchased Stickley in 1974. Today, New York-based Stickley has more than 1,500 employees representing 36 nationalities, and operates four state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities and 14 company-owned stores while selling retailers internationally.

Alfred Audi passed away in 2007, but the Stickley legacy and nurturing corporate environment is being continued by Aminy and son Edward.

"I believe passionately in living life daringly and richly, utilizing every God-given moment and opportunity," Aminy said.

Leading in music and worship at the breakfast will be Cindy Johnson, a young contemporary Christian vocalist, songwriter and guitarist and principal of Stage 2 Ministries. Cindy has recorded four full length albums, performed on stage with internationally known artists and has traveled overseas with Compassion International, an organization that works to release children from poverty.

Cost of admission for the breakfast is $25 for an individual, and $250 for a table of ten people. The cost includes breakfast, and in addition to covering expenses, these funds are directed towards charities such as Habitat for Humanity and High Point University scholarships. In addition, Mrs. Audi will donate her honorarium to the Furniture Hall of Fame.

Alfonso Marina Returns to High Point

By Home Furnishings Business in Case Goods on March 2, 2011

High-end furniture manufacturer Alfonso Marina is returning to High Point Furniture Market after a three-year hiatus.

Noted for hand-carved, inlaid marquetry furniture, Mexico City-based Alfonso Marina will open a new showroom, space 317 in Market Square, for the April 2-7 show.

The company will introduce fifty-four new designs, its largest collection ever, including traditional, contemporary and classic Asian designs in unusual antique finishes, beautiful in scale and proportion.

As an artist devoted to handcrafting fine wood furniture, Alfonso Marina established his company as a small atelier in 1971. What was once a small-scale cabinet shop has evolved into a 21st-century operation, in which preserving the skill and care of fine furniture craftsmanship has remained a priority.

In 1979, Alfonso Marina moved to its present factory location on the outskirts of Mexico City, where it employs approximately 300 people, many of them second- and third-generation craftsmen. Alfonso Marina produces highly elaborate and intricate designs with complex veneered faces, marquetry and bone inlays. The furniture utilizes wood from sustainable plantations as well as a wide variety of materials from all over the world. The company achieves freedom in design by manufacturing its own hardware.

"We are thrilled to have Alfonso Marina return to the High Point market," said Brian Bunch, vice president of leasing and assistant general manager for MMPI High Point. "Their product line is a perfect complement to the other high-end, design-driven product in our Market Square complex."
