Capel Store Names Biltmore Raffle Winner

Capel Rugs of Connecticut announced that Cynthia Gilroy of Lake Carmel, N.Y., won its drawing for a three-day getaway to historic Biltmore House.

The store in Westport held its grand opening in September and offered the contest as part of its festivities. The trip includes two nights of accommodations, estate admission, transportation and a behind-the-scenes tour of the estate.

"Since we opened in September, the Westport community has been incredibly supportive and welcoming," said Larry Lieberman, store manager. "We value each and every one of our customers, and we're happy to be able to give such a great gift to one of them."

Located in the Southern Appalachian Mountains of Asheville, N.C., Biltmore House was built by George Vanderbilt between 1889 and 1895. The French Renaissance chateau is now a popular tourist destination and one of Capel Rugs' licensing partners.

ICFA Creates New Web Site

In 2008 the membership of the Casual Furniture Retailers Association was integrated into ICFA. In addition to manufacturers, importers and retailers, the membership now also includes sales representatives, designers, suppliers and the media. The enhanced Web site includes information for all segments of this diverse constituency, and search capabilities within its membership directory database.

A video feature offers several member perspectives on a current topic, presently the business outlook for 2011. An awards page spotlights the industry€™s recognition programs, including the Apollo Awards for retail excellence, the Design Excellence competition, and the Sales Representative and Manufacturer of the Year awards. 

The site makes it easy to locate information on member benefits, including details on the new Sales Training Program DVD series. A second video feature showcases member company executives highlighting the reasons they are members and strong supporters of the association.

Member companies are urged to visit the site and familiarize themselves with its features. Non-members also are invited to explore the Web site and evaluate the many benefits of ICFA membership.

Ernst & Young Honors Jaipur Founder

Jaipur Rugs Founder N.K. Chaudhary has received a 2010 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award.

Chaudhary received the honor in New Delhi for excellence in the "Star-Up" category.

The criteria for the award go beyond running a successful business. Winners also must demonstrate innovation and exemplary levels of both professional and entrepreneurial leadership.

"Our entire team here is elated at this prestigious honor my father has received from such a highly respected organization as Ernst & Young," said Asha Chaudhary, Chaudhary's daughter and president of Jaipur Rugs' U.S. operation. "On a personal level, it's incredibly rewarding for me to see all of his years of hard work, passionate commitment and singular vision recognized by the international  business community."
 
One of the Jaipur's main goals is to improve the standard of living, education and income for its 40,000 weavers and artisans throughout India. Chaudhary's ongoing work through the Jaipur Rugs Foundation has allowed him to grow a successful business but also the longer-reaching opportunity to nurture the spirit of entrepreneurship within the company's vast network of artisans and their families through grassroots programs focusing on education, healthcare, community stewardship and women€™s empowerment.

Jerdon to Lead Capel Mid-Atlantic Sales

Capel Rugs has named Mark Jerdon regional sales manager for the Troy, N.C.-based rug vendor's Mid-Atlantic territory.

He brings more than 25 years of experience selling to dealers in the region to the position. Jerdon will manage sales in New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, northern Virginia, Pennsylvania, the Washington, D.C., metro area and the five boroughs of New York City.

"Mark's outstanding track record and high level of regard in the sales industry make him a valuable addition to the Capel team," said Vice President of Sales Allen Robertson. "We're excited to see the positive changes he will surely bring to our retailers in the Northeast."

"I am very excited to work with a company like Capel Rugs," said Jerdon. "Everyone at Capel cares about what they do and, as a result, they offer a great product."

Baker Bros. Furniture Holds Last Sale after 40 Years

Furniture and Appliances in Watsonville on Thursday. The store is going out of business after over four decades, and Flores has worked there for 25 years.
