By Home Furnishings Business in Case Goods on September 11, 2012

Solid wood furniture vendor Home Trends & Design will move its High Point Furniture Market showroom to Suites at Market Square's Salon for the Fall show.

The company, which had a temporary space in Showplace for April Market, will exhibit in a 2,128-square-foot showroom in Space M-0837 at the October High Point show. Home Trends & Design will be an anchor in the new Salon expansion directly above the original Salon area on the Mezzanine Floor.

€œWe€™re very excited about our new location,€ said Hank Cravey, CEO and cofounder of the company along with Dhaval Lodhavia, who oversees product design. €œYou can see us to the right-front as you come up the escalator, so we€™ll be very visible.€

Julie Messner, vice president of leasing for International Market Centers, said by expanding the SALON venue this market, IMC was able €œto add innovative, fashion-forward companies like Home Trends & Design to to this area that is known for showcasing the latest product introductions and new resources for the industry.€

During the October market, Home Trends & Design will feature three new collections: Bergman, a line of mid-priced sofas and chairs inspired by Old World, European designs, with details including overstuffed rolled arms, elegantly tufted upholstery, rolled piping and hand-nailed trim; SoCo, named after the popular South Congress district of Austin, Texas, where Home Trends & Design is based, with one-of-a-kind chairs made from reclaimed materials such as silk and teak; and expansions to its French Vintage line of classic, French-inspired case goods and accent furniture.

Home Trends & Design once again was named to the Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing companies for 2012, and the company also earned a spot on the Austin Business Journal€™s Fast 50 list of fastest-growing local companies in 2011.

Home Trends & Design is a founding members of the Sustainable Furnishings Council. In February, Home Trends & Design moved to a new corporate headquarters in Austin, Texas, doubling the size of its warehouse to 61,000 square feet. The company sources its line primarily from Southeast Asia.

Next Gen-Now Huddle Video Available

By Home Furnishings Business in Business Strategy on September 11, 2012

Home furnishings networking group Next Generation-Now has released a video of its first "huddle," which provided advice for issues in multi-generational businesses.

A panel of two family-owned businesses, Gates Home Furnishings in Grants Pass, Ore.; and Coconis Furniture, in South Zanesville, Ohio, answered questions submitted by Next Generation-Now members through Twitter and the NGN Social Site. NGN Advisory team members, Lael Thompson, Broyhill Home Collections; and Alex Macias, Del Sol Furniture, acted as moderators for the call, fielding questions from the group and leading the discussion.

€œThe first Next Generation-NOW Huddle was amazing,€ said Thompson. €œIt was great to see the diversity and unity between multiple generations in the furniture industry. I am grateful to Next Generation for providing a place for young people to learn and network. I can€™t wait to see what is next!€

The Huddle featured many great takeaways including:
€¢ Randy Coconis, owner of Coconis Furniture, told members, €œAs long as you have the respect of your people, the sky is the limit.€
€¢ Gates Home Furnishings Owner Giff Gates reminded them that, €œYou have to be financially sound€”cash is King. You also need a unique selling proposition to survive.€

The entire Huddle can be watched on the Next Generation-Now Social site.

The next NGN Huddle is scheduled for September 26 at 2 p.m. EDT (11 a.m. PDT) and will focus on Retail and Technology. People interested in attending can sign up for the Next Generation-Now mailing list here. Next Generation-Now will also host a High Point Furniture Market Chatter Over Cocktails on Saturday, Oct. 13, in the Market Square, showroom #272.

Latex International Unveils New Web Site

By Home Furnishings Business in Internet on September 11, 2012

Foam mattress and component manufacturer Latex International has launched a revamped Web site.

Stocked with information for retailers and consumers, the site is designed to both educate and debunk myths about latex sleep products.

The site features the company€™s new logo, a fresh look with soft blue and green colors and the trademarked tagline "Talalay Latex€“Lift, Relax Relieve" to correspond with a new initiative to energize the already fast-growing latex category through better education about the advantages of latex.

€œOur goal is to better educate both consumers and the bedding industry to the wonderful benefits of latex €“ what it does to lift your body, and relieve tension and pressure for a healthy sleep€“rather than focusing on the technicalities of what latex is.  That€™s not what the typical consumer really wants to know,€ said Shelton, Conn.-based Latex International Vice President of Strategic Marketing Tom Eisenberg.  €œAnd just as we€™re educating people through our website, we€™re committed to RSA and manufacturer training for any retailer with a Talalay latex mattress line.€

The new site is designed to provide easy to understand resources. Consumers will benefit by looking under the tab €œLatex Beds,€ which includes sections titled €œHow to Buy a Bed€ and €œHow Latex is Used Today.€ Additionally, under the tab €œLatex Material€ browsers can learn what latex is, how it€™s made, and the differences between Talalay latex and memory foam. A product finder makes it easy to pinpoint the brands already offering latex mattresses, toppers and pillows.  The easy to navigate website is visually appealing with dozens of photos, videos, easy-to-understand graphs, and available downloads of product descriptions.

€œOur research shows that consumers and retailers clearly want an alternative choice to memory foam, and this site will help provide the information needed to make that choice," Eisenberg said. "There are so many benefits to latex, that it really gives our partners a way to differentiate their product on the sales floor.€
