Furniture Training Co. Gets Award

By Home Furnishings Business in on May 8, 2013

The Furniture Training Co.'s furniture and mattress training Web site had received a 2013 Best Educational Software (BESSIE) award for having the "best vocational training Web site."

With nearly 700 furniture and mattress retailers use the self-paced, interactive site for training sales associates. Built-in training reports allow retailers to track each salesperson's progress toward industry certification.

The 19th annual BESSIE Awards, sponsored by the ComputEd Learning Center, recognizes the best in education and training software developed during the past year. Other recipients of this year's BESSIE Awards include organizations like Compass Learning Inc.,  ABC-Clio, and Discovery Education.

"It's a thrill to be honored with a BESSIE Award for our efforts in continually adding to and improving our collection of Internet-delivered furniture and mattress sales training," said Mark Lacy, president of The Furniture Training Co. "For many online training and educational software companies a BESSIE is our version of an 'Oscar' so at FTC we couldn't be happier with this recognition from the eLearning community."

Dormeo Octaspring Expands U.S. Manufacturing

By Home Furnishings Business in Bedding on May 8, 2013

Luxury bedding vendor Dormeo Octaspring is expanding its Dallas-area manufacturing operation in Plano, Texas.

The company invested more than $500,000 to retrofit the 30,000-square-foot facility with new equipment. The building had been used as a distribution center previously. In addition to helping fulfill orders faster, the move reaffirms Dormeo Octaspring€™s commitment to the North American market.

€œOur growth in the United States has been very brisk, and by increasing our local capabilities, we are much better able to service our North American retailers,€ said Dormeo Octaspring President North American Retail Sales Chris Henning. "Demand for our product is so strong because it is truly one-of-a-kind. After our successful showing at the Winter Las Vegas Market, we knew that we needed to shift from importing product to manufacturing domestically to keep up with orders from our retail partners here in the States and Canada. By expanding our capabilities at our Dallas location, we continue to be true to our promise to not only support our customers through our advertising campaigns, but to provide effective and efficient logistical support as well.€

Dormeo Octaspring customers will benefit from faster turnaround times on orders and deliveries. The addition of the research and development operation will serve as an added benefit for retailers requesting refinements to product lines.

€œGrowing our manufacturing and R & D operations in the U.S. will help us to better serve our customers by cutting down on shipping costs, making us more competitive when it comes to delivery times,€ said Dormeo Octaspring Chief Operating Officer North American John Stowe. €œInstead of using our overseas operations or even going to a domestic third party, we wanted to be able to make any product enhancements or customizations right in our own facility."

For more than 10 years, Dormeo has been a leading mattress brand in Europe and Asia.  Dormeo made its North American debut as Dormeo Octaspring in 2012, when it introduced its patented Octaspring to the U.S. market. With its U.S. showroom and distribution center in Plano, Texas, Dormeo Octaspring is part of Studio Moderna Group, a leading European multi-channel direct marketing company. The company will support its U.S. retail partners in the U.S. through a multi-million dollar television advertising program in 2013.
