Ottavio Missoni, 92, Dies

Ottavio Missoni, patriarch of the Italian luxury fashion brand built on zigzag-patterned knitwear, died Thursday at his home in Sumirago, Italy. He was 92.

The Missoni label gained prominence in the fashion world in the late 1960s and early 1970s for using knitwear as a canvas for kaleidoscopic flame, zigzag and space dye designs, and fashioning a new kind of informal, soft wardrobe. Today, the label is a full-blown luxury lifestyle brand that has the family name gracing eyewear, fragrances and footwear as well as hotels and home furnishings.

FMG Announces 2013-2014 Board of Directors

Retail buying group Furniture Marketing Group elected its 2013-2014 board of directors at a members meeting during the recent High Point Furniture Market.

Current board members David Koehler of Johnny Janosik in Laurel, Del.; and Ed Darcy of Mealey€™s Furniture in Fairless Hills, Pa., were elected to new two-year terms.

Koehler also will serve as FMG vice president; and Ed Darcy as treasurer.

Elected to the board for the first time were Gene Stoltz of Wolf Furniture in Bellwood, Pa.; and Jeff Child of RC Willey in Salt Lake City. Returning members are Oscar Miskelly, FMG president, of Miskelly Furniture in Jackson, Miss.; Larry Klaben, FMG chairman, of Morris Home Furnishings, Fairborn, Ohio; Gary Steinhafel of Steinhafels, Waukesha, Wis.; and Lee Goodman of Jerome€™s Furniture, San Diego.

€œWe are certainly blessed to have such a fine group of furniture executives who are willing to volunteer their time to help direct and guide the operation, and continued growth of the group,€  said FMG Executive Director Mike Herschel.

The Furniture Marketing Group has 102 medium to large retail members representing more than 780 store locations in North America.

Kravet to Open New Showroom at Las Vegas Design Center

Decorative home furnishings vendor Kravet will open a new showroom in the Las Vegas Design Center.

Kravet, a fabrics, furniture, wall coverings, trimmings, carpets and accessories distributor, is planning construction of a 4,684-square-foot showroom on the first floor of Building A, space A-124; and will debut its broad assortment of offerings to designers starting at the Summer 2013 Las Vegas Furniture Market.

President Cary Kravet. €œWe can now more aggressively and consistently pursue residential, hospitality and commercial opportunities in an exciting and thriving region.€

In 2011, Kravet acquired Brunschwig & Fils, a prestigious decorative house founded in 1900. All of these brands will be represented in the Kravet showroom at the LVDC.

Standard Furniture Consolidation to Close Frisco City Plant
