Ekornes, Retail Partners Raise more than $420K for Charity

By Home Furnishings Business in Community/Charitable Support on January 27, 2012 Upholstery producer Ekornes recently wrapped up its 4th annual Charity of Choice promotion with its retail partners. The seven-week promotion generated more than $420,000 for various charity organizations.

The promotion ran in North America during the holiday season from Nov. 25 to Jan. 16. Consumers were asked to donate $50 to the charity of the dealer€™s choice.  In return the consumer received $200 off the purchase of a Stressless recliner.  Ekornes and the dealers shared in the cost of the product discount.

€œWe are pleased and proud to have had the participation of 386 dealers covering 522 locations during this charity promotion,€ said Peter Bjerregaard, president of Ekornes. €œIt is important to us to be a leader and drive business for our dealers which can contribute so greatly to our communities at the same time.€

The promotion was supported with national television advertising, in-store POP and advertising support materials for the dealers including  print ads, flyers, graphics for dealer websites and more.  This resulted in a final seat count of more than 6,300 during this promotion, in addition to dealer inventory sales of nearly 2,100.

Canfield to Lead Specialized Furniture Carriers

David Canfield of Interlog USA has been elected president of the Specialized Furniture Carriers Board of Directors for 2012.

Assisting Canfield will be Patrick Cory of Cory First Choice Home Delivery as first vice president; and Joe Wade, Shelba D. Johnson Trucking, as second vice president. Scott De Jong of De Jong Enterprises, who served as president in 2011, now moves to chairman of the organization's board.
    
Directors elected to serve three-year terms include Aimee Boozer of Sun Delivery and Rowland Branham of Worldwide Logistics. Additional directors include Carly Abernathy of Northwest Furniture Xpress, serving a two-year term; and Ed Long, Sunbelt Furniture Xpress, serving a one-year term.

The Specialized Furniture Carriers is a division of the American Home Furnishings Alliance that serves niche carriers dedicated to the transportation and delivery of residential furnishings. Benefits of membership include significant savings on fuel costs through the AHFA fuel card program, group discounts on fleet maintenance, targeted education programs and networking within the AHFA.

Surya to Introduce Expanded Dick Idol Line

Rug supplier Surya is offering an expanded collection of the Dick Idol line at the winter markets, including next week's Las Vegas Market.

The new line features seven rustic styles in a variety of colors to complement Idol's bedding and upholstery lines. The full range of Dick Idol branded products includes case goods and upholstery from Shadow Mountain, lighting, accessories, wall décor, and accent furniture from Crestview Collection, unique reclaimed accents from Groovystuff, and bedding from Silverado Home, among others.

Carl's Furniture City Promotion Taps Facebook

Carl's Furniture City is running a Valentine's Day promotion on Facebook that will give away $2,500 shopping spree to the winner.

Contestants can register to win the Utica, N.Y., retailer's contest on Facebook after "liking" Carl's Furniture City's Page. No purchase is necessary.

A winner will be announced on Valentine's Day.

Furniture Classics to Give Away iPad in Las Vegas

To enter the drawing, retailers must visit the Furniture Classics showroom, A-409. The winner will be notified one week after Market.
