Tempur-Pedic Offers Lower Priced Line

By Home Furnishings Business in Bedding on January 31, 2012 Bedding supplier Tempur-Pedic International (NYSE: TPX), has introduced a the Tempur-Simplicty collection, a lower priced line of beds.

The collection features three new mattresses with a Tempur-Pedic solution for every sleep preference: the Tempur-Simplicity Firm, Tempur-Simplicity Medium and Tempur-Simplicity Soft. Each mattress features the latest formulation of Tempur-Pedic's proprietary  Tempur-Essential material.

"The Tempur-Simplicity collection offers consumers who desire Tempur-Pedic beds, but have not considered a premium mattress, the opportunity to become Tempur-Pedic owners," said Rick Anderson, president. "The collection offers the comfort, support and no-motion disturbance benefits our customers expect in a simple, elegant design, giving satisfied Tempur-Pedic owners even more reasons to recommend the brand."

"This launch greatly expands Tempur-Pedic's business potential in the category by doubling the size of our addressable market," said Chad Colony, senior vice president of U.S. sales for Tempur-Pedic. "We expect the Tempur-Simplicity Collection to further accelerate the market shift from spring mattresses to consumer-preferred non-spring mattresses and raise the average unit selling price and profitability for the entire market."

The introduction follows almost two years of consumer research and product development, including more than 2,500 consumer prototype evaluations. Twelve rounds of testing on the three models also revealed that half of those who tested a Tempur-Simplicity bed will seriously consider it for their next purchase.

Backed by a 10-year warranty, the beds will retail for $1,499 each (queen flat set). Supported by national television advertising, the collection will be available nationwide at authorized Tempur-Pedic retailers and through the company's Web site beginning in April 2012.

High Point International Buyer, Media Centers Move

By Home Furnishings Business in High Point on January 31, 2012

The International Buyer Center and Media Center for High Point Furniture Market are moving to a new, expanded location at the High Point Theater.

The High Point Theater, at 220 East Commerce Ave., is next to the Transportation Terminal and the Commerce Avenue entrance to the International Home Furnishings Center. The Media Center will be located on the top floor of the theater, and the IBC will be situated in the ground floor gallery.

"With both international buyer and press attendance growing significantly at Market, the new location adds much-needed room for both the Media Center and the IBC," said Tammy Nagem, COO of the High Point Market Authority. "There will be more workspace and a separate dining area for both groups."

The IBC is a fully-staffed lounge for international buyers, and includes currency exchange, a business center, meals, and more.

The Media Center also is fully-staffed and offers free services and work areas for reporters, editors, broadcasters, and bloggers from around the globe.

"The media who attend Market will appreciate this return to their former Media Center space," said Cheminne Taylor-Smith, vice president of marketing for the High Point Market Authority. "The central location is key for reporters and editors who try to cover 10.5 million square feet of Market in a short time period. Unlike the previous set-up in the theater, though, the Media Center will be on the top floor where there is more room for the exhibitor media kits, lockers, and computers provided by the Market for the press."
