U.S. Consumer Confidence Tumbles in January

The index slipped to 61.1 down from 64.8 in December, returning to the level of two months ago.

"Consumers' assessment of current business and labor market conditions turned more downbeat and is back to November 2011 levels," said Lynn Franco, head of the Conference Board Consumer Research Center.

Kingsdown, Magniflex Ink Licensing Alliance

Global mattress brand Magniflex and top 10 bedding producer Kingsdown have inked a deal for Magniflex to make and distribute MySide bedding and bedMATCH technology in Italy.

Additionally, both companies have announced plans for joint product development as Prato, Italy-based Magniflex  aims to create a new co-branded bedding line certified by the Sleep to Live Institute. The deal gives Mebane, N.C.-based Kingsdown's premier diagnostic brands access to Europe's fourth-largest economy and Magniflex's chain of  sleep shops, the largest in the country, as well as the opportunity for the two companies to expand their global distribution through joint efforts using the scientific research of the Sleep to Live Institute.
 
"Magniflex is a brand rich in European history and performance. Like Kingsdown, they are committed to continuously learning more about the science of sleep and ways in which customers can get a more restorative night's sleep so our alliance is really of two companies with like mind and mission," said Kingsdown Senior Vice President of Global Brand Management Lee Hinshaw. "This agreement makes for a powerful combination in the bedding industry, as both companies are focused on creating innovative, luxurious products and growing our brands globally."

"This partnership reinforces our commitment to providing our retailers and consumers the highest quality sleep solutions on the market," said Magniflex Global Sales Director Marco Magni. "We are excited that several of our Magniflex collections will be Sleep to Live Institute certified and we will begin manufacturing and distributing Kingsdown's popular MySide brand in Italy. In addition, we will be bringing the Science of Sleep to the Italian market with bedMATCH technology, a sales tool that helps consumers find the best mattresses for their body type."

The Sleep to Live Institute€™s signature product, MySide, caters to couples, with two individual sleep zones in one mattress. The dual zones can be comprised of foam, gel, or latex and are recommended through the bedMATCH diagnostic system, which uses 18 statistical measurements and more than 1,000 calculations to help consumers pick the best mattress for their body type.

At this week's Las Vegas Furniture Market, Kingsdown will show in WMC-B1300, and Magniflex in WMC-C1552.

Home Choice Opens St. Paul Store

Minnesota furniture, appliances and electronics retailer Home Choice has opened its newest store, a 7,000-square-foot location in St. Paul.

The store features brand-name merchandise from quality brands such as Ashley, Serta, HP, Sony and Whirlpool.

"We are looking forward to serving the residents of St. Paul and nearby communities by providing a great shopping experience and a wide assortment of high quality furniture, appliances, electronics and computers," said Manager Craig Lexvold. To show its appreciation for being welcomed to the St. Paul community, Home Choice is contributed $1,000 to the Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota at a Saturday ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The store also ran a sweepstakes for a chance to win the choice of a television, bedroom set, dinette or a living room group.

Home Choice has 13 locations in Minnesota.

Human Touch Launches Immersion Seating, Immersion Studio

Massage chair and recliner vendor Human Touch is launching its new Immersion Seating and Immersion Studio at this week's Las Vegas Furniture Market.

Immersion Studio is a turnkey retail display for the new chairs, whose development pulled from the intelligence and expertise of wellness professionals such as chiropractors and naturopathic physicians, and professional athletes. The chairs and retail program are on display in Human Touch's World Market Center, WMC-B900.

Two new products in the Immersion Seating line include the new ZeroG 2.0 Immersion massage chair; and the WholeBody 2.0 Immersion massage chair. These products will launch concurrently with the introduction of the new Immersion Studio for retailers, a 120-square-foot self-contained retail environment that includes four affordably priced, high-end Immersion Seating products on a durable wood laminate floor, a Wellness Beacon multimedia display to highlight the new chairs' design, and an educational video featuring Dr. Rouse from the Human Touch Wellness Council. All are designed to provide retailers with the means to attract buyers into the Human Touch Immersion Experience.
