JC Penney CEO Vows for Low Prices

J.C. Penney Co. Chief Executive Officer Ron Johnson, reiterating that his turnaround of the department store chain will take four years, said he's sticking with his strategy for "everyday low prices."

"We do not believe in marking up goods beyond a fair profit, we will not mark things off 10, 15, 20 percent off, we do not do that type of business," Johnson said Wednesday at the Fortune Brainstorm Tech conference in Aspen, Colo. He cited the effectiveness of the strategy for Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Starbucks Corp. and for goods such as gasoline.

G. Romano Commits to Las Vegas, High Point Markets

Upholstery producer G. Romano has signed a permanent leases at the World Market Center in Las Vegas and the International Home Furnishings Center in High Point.

Rick Lovegrove, who runs the company with his wife Natalina Lovegrove, said the larger space will allow G. Romano to better show its products during the markets.

"A combination of elements has allowed us to commit to permanent showrooms," he said. "With a fashion-driven product such as ours, we always have new introductions, colors and fabrics. A larger permanent space will allow us to show these new products along with existing collections. Our dealers needed to see more of us at market."

In Las Vegas, the company's new 2,000-sqaure-foot showroom will be located in Building B, Suite 701, on the Modern Trends floor and will make its showroom debut at the upcoming 2012 Summer Las Vegas Market. The company had been showing in the home furnishings temporaries at Las Vegas Market since 2006. In High Point, the company has renewed its existing showroom space at D708 in the International Home Furnishings Center.

Celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, Lovegrove added that the new Las Vegas showroom will incorporate some vintage elements including framed photography of founder Gino Romano and some shots of the company's Montreal factory. The company also will showcase new upholstery collections and new fabrics.

"We're not a big corporation, but a family-owned, design-oriented manufacturer," he said. "But, at the same time we bring great product to market and IMC sees value in our type of company and has welcomed us with a lot of support."

Lovegrove also said the merger of IMC properties in High Point and Las Vegas has been a positive move that has helped companies like his reach a greater audience.

Both the IHFC and the World Market Center are owned by International Market Centers

Stanley Q2 Sales off 10.8%

Stanley Furniture Co. (NASDAQ-GS: STLY) reported second-quarter 2012 sales of $24.4 million, a 10.8 percent drop from the prior-year period.

Year to date, net sales of $51.2 million were off 5.2 percent compared with the first half of 2011.

The company reported net income of $36.9 million in the second quarter, which included $39.4 million of income, net of expenses, from Continued Dumping and Subsidy Offset Act in proceeds from anti-dumping wood bedroom furniture duties. Stanley had a second-quarter 2012 operating loss of $1.4 million, compared with an operating loss of $1.1 million the same period a year ago.

"We are very pleased with the ability we have demonstrated to manage our cost structure and reduce our operating losses on lower sales volume," commented Glenn Prillaman, president and CEO. "We continue to gain momentum with our Stanley brand. While net sales of this product line decreased sequentially as a result of our promotions during the first quarter, they held steady compared to the prior year quarter, our strongest of 2011."

DeCoro Sets Sales Team

Leather furniture vendor DeCoro has has appointed five regional sales representatives in North and South America.

DeCoro, which will make its first North American showing in three years when it introduces its 2012 collection in Vancouver, August 13-16. Mannie Bains and Perry Minouk head the western Canadian and eastern Canadian sales teams, respectively.

"We've recruited talented individuals who will help make DeCoro's return to the North and South American markets successful," said Founder Luca Ricci. "With each sales representative leading a targeted region, we hope to increase brand awareness throughout Canada, the United States and South America."

King will work closely with major dealers to develop products and programs that fit their needs.

"King has a vast knowledge of the home and furniture industry and is an expert in marketing trends and styles," Ricci said. "His dual experience in management and marketing is essential and we¹re excited about DeCoro's return to the United States."

Denver Mattress Raises $200K for Orphanages

Bedding retailer Denver Mattress Co. has raised $200,000 for the Tim Tebow Foundation's support of orphanage services.

A Denver Mattress promotion pledged $15 to the Tim Tebow Foundation for every mattress sold from May 21 until June 24. Components of the campaign included in-store signage, radio commercials, newspaper ads, catalogs, magazines, digital components, social media, online landing pages, and television advertisements.

For the second year in a row, Denver Mattress reached its goal for the Tim Tebow Foundation for the second year in a row.

"Denver Mattress was elated to have this opportunity to assist those in need and to make a positive impact in the world," said Dan Visser, president of the Denver Mattress Co.

Denver Mattress is part of Denver-based Furniture Row Cos., which operates more than 330 stores in 31 states.

"I am passionately driven to make a difference in the lives of people who need it most," said Tebow, whose foundation has partnered with Furniture Row since September of 2010. "With the help of great people and amazing companies like Furniture Row, we will make a difference."
