Furniture HOF Launches New Expanded Web Site

By Home Furnishings Business in High Point on March 10, 2010

The American Furniture Hall of Fame Foundation Inc., High Point, has partnered with FurnitureDealer.net to revamp and redesign its Web site.

The new site is Phase One of a multi-year plan to preserve the industry's history for future generations and make it accessible in relevant, interesting ways.

For many years, the Hall of Fame Web site was provided by and hosted by Furniture World. This is the organization's first independent Web site.

"We are very grateful for the ongoing support that Russell Bienenstock has given the Hall of Fame Web site, all free of charge, for many, many years," said Foundation President Don Belgrad. "It has been a labor of love that has served us well.  Now it is time for us to graduate to our own site."

"We have a passion for history, business and the furniture industry, so it is an honor to be able to partner with the Foundation and help take the Web site in a new direction," said Andrew Bernstein, founder and president of FurnitureDealer.net.  "The redesign of the site provides users with more detailed content and is much easier to navigate as they learn about our industry€™s history."

Phase One of the new site features biographies on the 81 members of the Hall of Fame, an extensive gallery of downloadable photos of banquet guests, vintage photos from the industry and information about membership, the process of nominations to the Hall of Fame and details of the Induction Banquet. It also will include online reservations, ordering and payment for the portrait prints, books of oral histories, and the fall induction banquet later this year.

"Our vision is to make this site a one-stop resource for historical information on the furniture industry, to provide a registry of historical works and to offer hard-to-find information in collaboration with other industry organizations and universities," Belgrad said.  €œUltimately, Phase Two will expand the width and depth of the site by telling the stories of the people who have made this industry what it is today while looking towards the future."

Green Cradle Organic Home, Mattress and Baby Holds Re-Opening Celebration

By Home Furnishings Business in Community/Charitable Support on March 10, 2010

Green Cradle Organic Home, Mattress and Baby recently held a grand re-opening celebration party at its renovated Sherman Oaks, California store.

Green Cradle is a retailer devoted exclusively to offering their clientele a selection of eco-friendly and all natural lifestyle and home products. The store features Organicpedic by OMI, a leading U.S. manufacturer of organic mattresses, pillows and accessories.

"Leading a healthy lifestyle has quickly surpassed the trend stage and reached a new level of mainstream acceptance, as people now view wholesome organic products as the standard for a good living," said Green Cradle Owner Edward Olshansky. "Having an expanded area to showcase the latest innovations to hit the eco-friendly market is something to celebrate. Consumer response has been tremendous."

Guests at the event enjoyed live music, catered food, a hand massage station, and an organic cake with a tree, meadow and green cradle (all made from organic ingredients).

The event also featured a silent auction fundraiser for the national non-profit, Healthy Child Healthy World, an organization is dedicated to protecting young children from harmful exposure to toxic chemicals by educating and empowering parents to create greener, non-toxic environments.

"Green Cradle's success signifies that today's consumer is supporting organic textiles, just as the organic food and beverage industry has grown from $1 billion to $28 billion," said Walter Bader, CEO of OMI. " ... Our vision for a greener existence is succinct with the Green Cradle's approach. We want our customers to know they can lay down their head, and rest peacefully, knowing they are sleeping on something toxic-free and not unknowingly breathing in toxic chemicals."

OMI's Northern California production facility is the first large-scale, Global Organic Textile Standard certified organic mattress factory in the North America, the company said.

Green Cradle, which only sells environmentally-friendly goods, requires all items in the store not only have a claim of being organic and all natural, but actually contain no harmful chemicals, no synthetic preservatives, no harmful dyes, no hidden plastics, no toxic fire retardants, and no formaldehyde-leaching pressed woods.
