Dick Idol, Groovystuff Team for Furniture License

By Home Furnishings Business in Green on September 20, 2010

Montana outdoorsman and artist Dick Idol and furniture vendor Groovystuff will launch a licensed line of furniture and accessories at spring 2011 High Point Market.

The new line will incorporate prized vintage materials from yesterday's antiquities with a rustic contemporary twist. Groovystuff specializes in furniture and accessories in reclaimed teak.

The launch will coincide with a major new product push across the Dick Idol brand to include new furniture and bedding from Shadow Mountain; lighting and accessories from Pacific Coast Lighting; area rugs from Surya; and wall art/decor from StyleCraft. The objective of the new partnership with Groovystuff is to continue building the Dick Idol brand's position as the premiere outdoor lifestyle brand for the home and the top source for refined rustic styling.

Groovystuff designs, produces, and distributes unique reclaimed teakwood home furnishings at upper-medium and high-end price points.  Groovystuff is committed to sustainable manufacturing and environmental accountability and seeks to assist its retail customers in growing their business' sustainability. Based in Dallas, Groovystuff has permanent showrooms in High Point (The Suites at Market Square #G-1028); Las Vegas (World Market Center B-135); and once a year at the International Casual Furniture Market in Chicago (Merchandise Mart #8-9036A).

Idol, founder and namesake of the brand, said, "I am extremely pleased to announce our new partnership with Groovystuff as they clearly fill a unique product niche in our industry" Idol said. "I believe that distinctive accents are a key design element in any room in the home and am confident that Groovystuff will provide our customers with great complementary designs."

Chris Bruning, Groovystuff founder and vice president said: "Our company continues to grow, and we believe our partnership with Dick Idol will help us expand our product line and customer base. Groovystuff is excited to work together with the entire Dick Idol team including Shadow Mountain and all the other great partners."

More Young America Products Greenguard Certified

By Home Furnishings Business in Green on September 20, 2010

Young America, Stanley Furniture's nursery and youth furniture brand, has received Greenguard Children & Schools Certification for 47 additional products.

Greenguard Environmental Institute is an industry-independent, non-profit organization that specializes in improving public health and quality of life through programs that improve indoor air quality. Since its inception in 2001, GEI has been using environmental chamber technology to certify products for chemical emissions and uphold rigorous indoor air quality standards.

"Greenguard Certification focuses primarily on the indoor air quality of a child's living space, particularly the bedroom where he/she spends the most time," said Cristina Loth, Young America's vice president of engineering services. "Children spend about 85 percent of their time indoors, where the air can be two to five times more polluted than outdoors.

"Based on these statistics, we quickly realized that the health and safety of a child starts indoors. That's when Young America made the decision to lead the industry in safety by offering consumers, over time, an entire Young America product line that is Greenguard Certified."

The additional 47 items in the Young America product line that have received the Greenguard Children & Schools Certification include a variety of beds.

"Since the majority of a childʼs first few years of life are spent sleeping," said Ward OʼQuinn, product manager for Young America, "it only seemed natural that we begin the certification process with cribs and beds."

According to Neil MacKenzie, Stanleytown, Va.-based Stanley Furniture Company's director of marketing, all certified products can now be identified on youngamerica.com by the Greenguard Children & Schools Certification logo.

"When it comes to indoor air quality, Greenguard is the authority in the infant and youth furniture industry," O'Quinn said. "We are excited and proud to offer our retailers and consumers such a highly-regarded third-party certification. And Young America's cribs and beds are only the beginning."

Gold Bond to Intro Encased Coil at New Price Points

By Home Furnishings Business in Bedding on September 20, 2010

Mattress manufacturer Gold Bond will debut a collection that introduces encased coils to two-sided mattresses priced under $1,000.

The new Sacro-Support Encased Coil line, launching at October's High Point Furniture Market, aims to meet retailer demand for differentiating, value-oriented products available at strong margins. Gold Bond shows in IHFC-M610.

"Of the few two-sided mattresses available today, even fewer are encased coil versions because the cost of adding these components has pushed it out of reach for many manufacturers," said Gold Bond President Robert Naboicheck. "We never skimp on the high quality raw materials used in our mattresses. Because of how we incorporated our encased coil system, we can bring our two-sided offerings to a whole new level while still offering tremendous value."

The Sacro-Support Encased Coil line expands Hartford, Conn.-based Gold Bond's offerings, which bring ingredients typically found in higher end bedding into the under-$1,000 category. Three models in the line, Buckingham, Westminster and Camelot will range from $799 to $999 and feature a brand new, soft and luxurious rayon knit fabric accented by elegant medallions in rich gold and dark chocolate tones.

Also making its High Point debut is the newly developed super soft, Sacro-Support collection comprised of the Westport, Litchfield and Greenwich. Delivering much sought after softness in a long lasting, two-sided product, these address the needs of consumers who today want a softer, plusher, more responsive feel than in prior generations.

The line carries a suggested retail price of $599 to $849 in queen.
