Ikea Hits 37% Renewable Energy Use

Home furnishings retailer Ikea's recent purchase of a wind farm in Alberta, Canada, will allow the company to meet 37% of its energy consumption globally.

Buoyed by increasing demand for its popular furniture and accessories, Ikea says sales grew more that 3 percent to 27.9 billion euros ($38 billion) in the latest fiscal year.

Ikea Gets Aggressive in India

After its winning battle with the FIPB and various arms of the government, Swedish retail giant Ikea is now getting aggressive about its India foray. Before opening its stores here, the company wants to ensure that there are no products with names even remotely similar.

According to a report in the Economic Times, Ikea has asked its legal team to send injunction orders to more than 24 small businesses across India that have been selling products and services such as furniture, modular kitchen and packaging material under similar sounding names.

Ikea Plans to Expand Retail Footprint

Swedish furniture retailer Ikea plans to accelerate store expansion, a part of its strategy to double sales to around $66 billion by 2020.

The announcement came from Ikea veteran Peter Agnefjall, who became CEO last week. Agnefjall aims to generate 5 percent annual sales growth in existing stores, while another 5 percent sales will come from new store openings.

Ikea Opens Factory in China

Sweden-based home furnishing giant IKEA Group opened its first wholly owned manufacturing facility in China on Wednesday, through subsidiary IKEA Industry Group, in a bid to support its rapid expansion in Asia - especially China.

The factory, which will make wooden products, is in Nantong, Jiangsu province, a manufacturing hub for home furnishings and interior decoration material. The factory will supply IKEA stores, mainly in China.

This aesthetic also is applied to the multitude of other accessories that the company produces for itself or under exclusive arrangements with other companies that it may own.
