Sleep Number, the airbed sleep system made by Select Comfort (NYSE: SCSS), ranked highest in customer satisfaction for the second consecutive year in the J.D. Power Mattress Satisfaction Report released this week by the well-known research firm.
The firm said Sleep Number performed particularly well in warranty and features, and compiled a customer satisfaction score of 887. That was one point ahead of Simmons Beautyrest and six points ahead of Tempur-Pedic, the report said.
Based on a 1,000-point scale, the report gave Ikea mattresses a score of 849, while Serta and Stearns & Foster each had a score of 847. Sealy was last among the seven brands ranked with a score of 846.
The report found that price and comfort continue to be the two most frequently cited reasons customers selected the mattress they purchased, followed closely by the mattress brand's reputation.
The Mattress Satisfaction Report, issued for the second year by J.D. Power, measures customer satisfaction with mattress purchases based on seven factors (in order of importance): comfort, price, support, durability, features, warranty and customer service.
The report is based on responses from 2,622 customers who purchased a mattress in the 12 months prior to fielding the survey in October.
