Furniture Factory Blast in China Kills 2

The news agency says oil and flammable materials at a Zhenghe Wood Co. Ltd. factory caught on fire Wednesday, igniting the explosion.

Fire Destroys St. Albans' Furniture Store

Fire broke out at around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. Advantage Home Furnishings was open at the time and several customers had to be evacuated.

HomeDirectUSA Joins EPA Transport Partnership

HomeDirectUSA has joined SmartWay Transport Partnership, a joint Environmental Protection Agency/industry effort to reduce greenhouse gases and air pollution.

HomeDirectUSA, Hillside, Ill., a specialist in nationwide delivery of large consumer goods, will contribute to the partnership's goal to reduce 33 million to 66 million metric tons of carbon dioxide and up to 200,000 tons of nitrogen oxide per year by 2012 by improving the environmental performance of its freight operations.
 
"HomeDirectUSA is committed to supporting initiatives which improve our environment," said HomeDirectUSA Chief Operating Officer Frank Gaura. "Our partnership with SmartWay allows us the opportunity to provide additional focus on reducing transportation-related emissions. Just as the EPA believes the quality of the environment is everyone's responsibility, so do we. HomeDirectUSA will continue to do its part in preserving today's environment for future generations."
 
Launched in February 2004, the SmartWay Transport Partnership brings together major freight shippers, trucking companies, railroads, logistics companies and trade/professional associations to pursue mutually beneficial strategies that result in emissions reductions and other environmental improvements, as well as cost savings to the companies. The partnership currently has more than 2,600 partners.
