Gift for Life has awarded supermodel turned lifestyle designer Kathy Ireland the first-ever Design for Life Award.
The gift and home decor industry group presented Ireland with the award on Sunday at the annual Gift for Life event at the Central Park Boathouse in New York City.
Gift for Life was founded in 1992 as a volunteer group to raise funds for AIDS assistance and research through DIFFA: Design Industry Foundation Fighting AIDS. Since then, Gift for Life has raised nearly $4 million.
Ireland is CEO and chief designer of Kathy Ireland Worldwide, a $1.4 billion-a-year lifestyle design firm.

An employee of Hilton Furniture & Leather Gallery, Pasadena, Texas, has sued the furniture store for negligence, the Houston Chronicle reported Friday.
Gerardo Padilla, a forklift operator, filed a lawsuit on Thursday. He claims a forklift ran over him when he climbed off after he said he engaged the parking brake. He injured his leg and foot.
His employer had told him to get off the forklift to work on repairing sheeting.
