Knoxville, Tenn., retailer Braden€™s Lifestyles Furniture has added a 2,000-square-foot display of HGTV Home Furniture at its Turkey Creek store location.

As part of the grand opening celebration, Genevieve Gorder, HGTV Design Star judge and host of Dear Genevieve, was on hand on March 14 to meet guests and sign autographs.

€œWe are very excited to share the HGTV Home Furniture collection with our customers,€ said Gary Braden, president of the family-owned Braden€™s Lifestyles. €œThe HGTV philosophy of providing smart, fresh designs combined with quality furniture fits perfectly with our goal of bringing East Tennessee fine, quality furniture at the lowest possible prices. Our design team enjoys working with our customers to create customized personal lifestyle environments. Mega Motion Has Permanent High Point Space

By Home Furnishings Business in Motion Upholstery on April 4, 2013

Lift chair and scooter vendor Mega Motion is moving to a permanent showroom in Plaza Suites for the April 20-25 High Point Furniture Market.

Mega Motion, subsidiary of Pride Mobility Products Corp., will exhibit in a 1,600-square-foot showroom in Space 413 of Plaza Suites. For the past few High Point markets, Mega has been showing in various temporary spaces in other buildings.

€œThis new showroom gives us a strong marketing platform as we look to expand our business with full-line furniture stores and other types of retailers,€ said Dennis Valkanoff, director of new business development for Pride Mobility. €œWe€™re now in a centrally located space that€™s easy to find and shop.€

At the April market, Mega Motion will launch a new line of power-recline lift chairs called Windemere Motion. Priced in the $599 to $1,299 retail range, the line will include eight models in a variety of fabrics that will add to any home décor, including luxurious and durable Crypton Super Fabrics that resist spills, stains, odors, and bacteria. Custom-order capabilities also will be offered for the first time.

€œWe€™re enhancing the styling of these new lift chairs to make them more suitable for the home environment,€ said Valkanoff about the new direction.

Mega Motion also will introduce four new scooters under the Rascal brand, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.

The showroom presentation will include a special selling €œplatform€ designed for in-store use. The platform features six Windemere lift chairs and two Rascal scooters, providing retailers with a focused display that spotlights the range of options available.

€œMany retailers only have one or two lift chairs or a single scooter on their entire floor,€ said Valanoff. €œBut with this type of product, one size does not fit all because of weight differences and other requirements. Our new display will enable consumers to see a range of configurations so they find the right product for their individual needs.€

The display will include special signage and other point-of-purchase material to help drive sales.

€œPower-assisted lift chairs and scooters offer a major profit opportunity to furniture stores,€ said Valkanoff. €œThe Baby Boomer generation is heading into retirement and demand for these products is growing rapidly.€

Mega Motion adds another exciting sourcing option to the strong product mix at Plaza Suites, said Julie Messner, vice president of leasing for International Market Centers.

€œWe were able to find them a location where they are surrounded by other majors in their category and benefit from shared traffic from surrounding showrooms in this major market complex,€ she said.

Furniture Hall of Fame Launches Video Project

By Home Furnishings Business in Special Events on April 4, 2013

The American Furniture Hall of Fame Foundation and full-line furniture vendor AICO have teamed for the "Tell Us Your Story" video project.

The program is part of the Hall of Fame's History Project.

Retailers, exhibitors and suppliers attending the upcoming High Point Furniture Market are invited to tape a favorite story of their company or the industry on Saturday, April 20; or Monday, April 22, 5-6:30 p.m. both days the AICO/Amini Innovation Corp. showroom, space 802 in the International Home Furnishings Center's Commerce wing.

Appointments are encouraged but not required for each 15-minute taping. For questions or to reserve a time, e-mail Pam King.

€œWe all enjoy hearing--and telling--stories about how a company was started, about our leaders or about €˜I remember when€™ experiences,€ said Randy Ford, Foundation president. €œThese stories are a part of our heritage. They knit us together as an industry, rich with lifelong relationships and shared memories.

€œWe promise to make it quick and easy for you, so as you wrap up your day, please make a point to stop by and Tell Us Your Story. Be a part of the History Project and help the Hall preserve our joint history.€

The stories, captured on video, will have three purposes. First, excerpts will be presented at our October Banquet, in celebration of the Furniture Hall of Fame's 25th anniversary. Stories will be shared on the Foundation Web site, and each will be entered into the Foundation archives for future use as a video and written document.

"Our industry has a wonderful history," said Michael Amini, founder of AICO. "It€™s the stories we tell that keep our history alive and educates the next generation. I want to invite anyone with a story to tell to come to our showroom and add to the legacy of this great industry."

€œThe Foundation is seeking stories that for example, might reflect how a retailer continued to serve its customers during the Great Depression, how a company was founded or named, or even how a company might have been saved from bankruptcy,€ says George Cartledge, incoming Foundation president. €œThink about the turning points as well as some of the quirky things that have happened and are fondly remembered. We want the stories that you love to tell.€

The Foundation also is collecting company history books and historic photos to build its collection and further preserve the industry€™s history. These materials can be sent to the American Furniture Hall of Fame Foundation, Inc. at 202 Neal Pl., High Point, N.C. 27262.
