Mega Motion Has Permanent High Point Space

By Home Furnishings Business in Motion Upholstery on April 4, 2013

Lift chair and scooter vendor Mega Motion is moving to a permanent showroom in Plaza Suites for the April 20-25 High Point Furniture Market.

Mega Motion, subsidiary of Pride Mobility Products Corp., will exhibit in a 1,600-square-foot showroom in Space 413 of Plaza Suites. For the past few High Point markets, Mega has been showing in various temporary spaces in other buildings.

€œThis new showroom gives us a strong marketing platform as we look to expand our business with full-line furniture stores and other types of retailers,€ said Dennis Valkanoff, director of new business development for Pride Mobility. €œWe€™re now in a centrally located space that€™s easy to find and shop.€

At the April market, Mega Motion will launch a new line of power-recline lift chairs called Windemere Motion. Priced in the $599 to $1,299 retail range, the line will include eight models in a variety of fabrics that will add to any home décor, including luxurious and durable Crypton Super Fabrics that resist spills, stains, odors, and bacteria. Custom-order capabilities also will be offered for the first time.

€œWe€™re enhancing the styling of these new lift chairs to make them more suitable for the home environment,€ said Valkanoff about the new direction.

Mega Motion also will introduce four new scooters under the Rascal brand, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.

The showroom presentation will include a special selling €œplatform€ designed for in-store use. The platform features six Windemere lift chairs and two Rascal scooters, providing retailers with a focused display that spotlights the range of options available.

€œMany retailers only have one or two lift chairs or a single scooter on their entire floor,€ said Valanoff. €œBut with this type of product, one size does not fit all because of weight differences and other requirements. Our new display will enable consumers to see a range of configurations so they find the right product for their individual needs.€

The display will include special signage and other point-of-purchase material to help drive sales.

€œPower-assisted lift chairs and scooters offer a major profit opportunity to furniture stores,€ said Valkanoff. €œThe Baby Boomer generation is heading into retirement and demand for these products is growing rapidly.€

Mega Motion adds another exciting sourcing option to the strong product mix at Plaza Suites, said Julie Messner, vice president of leasing for International Market Centers.

€œWe were able to find them a location where they are surrounded by other majors in their category and benefit from shared traffic from surrounding showrooms in this major market complex,€ she said.
