Vegas Market Reprises Social Media "Hot Spot"

By Home Furnishings Business in Social Media on July 18, 2011

"The Hot Spot: Social Media Bar" will return to Las Vegas Furniture Market for a third time, August 1-5.

The Social Media Bar, in a new location, World Market Center C-301, allows market attendees to meet with experts who can provide the latest tips and techniques on how to maximize their presence and fully connect with their customers in the ever-changing medium of social media. This summer's Hot Spot will feature informational sessions twice a day, Monday through Wednesday, one for beginners and one for intermediate users, that will provide hands-on training for social media and tips for online marketing.

"Social media continues to be an important platform where businesses can connect with their key audiences," said Dana Andrew, vice president of marketing and public relations for World Market Center Las Vegas. "But, the fact remains that many people do not know how to take full advantage of this medium as a method of generating business. We see Hot Spot as a value-add for our attendees that will get them tweeting and updating their fans and followers in a way that will ultimately benefit their bottom-line."

The Hot Spot: Social Media Bar was inspired by the Apple Genius Bar and was introduced at the 2010 Summer Las Vegas Market. Free assistance is provided by Christi Tullis of PuTTin' OuT, who in addition to providing the latest tips for social media usage, can also help market visitors register their companies and brands on social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter.

Ashley Furniture Homestore Donates Mattresses

By Home Furnishings Business in Community/Charitable Support on July 18, 2011

Ashley Furniture Homestore's "A Hope to Dream" program has teamed with United Way of Dane County, Wis., to provide 17 new mattress sets to families in need.

As part of the local United Way's Housing First Challenge, which helps homeless families find stable, permanent housing, an Ashley truck packed with brand new mattresses made its way to a Madison, Wis., apartment complex on July 14, where a team of United Way and Ashley volunteers unloaded and delivered the new beds to awaiting families.

"Some of these families were actually forced to sleep on winter coats on the floor. It was just heartbreaking," says John Disa, President of Ashley Homestores Ltd. "Since 2010, Ashley Furniture HomeStore's A Hope To Dream program has provided less-fortunate kids with new mattress sets of their very own. Teaming up with United Way of Dane County for this Housing First Challenge was yet another way to give families and children in need access to one of their most basic rights: the right to a safe, comfortable place to rest their heads."
