A World Market Center tenant lost an unusual attempt to break its lease early after the business it generated at the semiannual shows fell short of expectations.
Bel Air Lighting Inc., a wholesaler based in Valencia, Calif., contended during a five-day trial that it had agreed to take a World Market Center showroom based on promises that it could be on a floor with other lighting companies in Building C's 10th floor.
However, Building C opened in mid-2008, as the economy was in a downward spiral, and the lighting destination floor was dotted with vacancies.

Dozens of deserving families received free furniture, thanks to a well-known South Florida furniture store and several non-profit organizations.
El Dorado Furniture is celebrating its 45th anniversary in South Florida by giving back to 45 families in need. One of the families who benefited from the generous giveaway was Maylan Chavez and her family. "We would have never been able to afford half of the things that El Dorado has," Maylan said. The 17-year-old is completely dependent upon a ventilator, and has a nurse who visits her Hialeah home every day.

Conns Inc. posted adjusted earnings per share of 35 cents in the first quarter of fiscal 2013, beating the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 33 cents and the year-ago earnings of 14 cents per share.
The improvement in earnings was buoyed by higher sales, efficient cost containment effort and lower interest expense. In the first quarter, the seller of home appliances and consumer electronics grew 4.6 percent year over year in revenues to $200.9 million which slightly lagged the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $202.0 million.

Ikea Group will consider entering India after policy clarity, and open stores faster in China as it boosts sales outside Europe.
The company is watching legislative developments in India to weigh a potential entry, Chief Executive Officer Mikael Ohlsson said in an interview in Shanghai. In China, where Ikea is increasing store openings to three annually from one, sales are expected to rise by at least 20 percent this year, he said.
