Stone House Furniture Ceases Operations

By Home Furnishings Business in Furniture Retailing on June 7, 2010

Stone House Furniture has closed its doors after 38 years serving Pennsylvania's Bucks County area after completing a going-out-of-business sale in May.

Karin Ernest, who owns Stone House with daughter Heather Wessner said the store in the farm country of Mechanicsville, Pa., just couldn't "handle the money part of it."

Ernest and Wessner retained professional sales promotion company Profit Management Promotions, Jamison, Pa., to meet with the family and suggest a mutually beneficial plan to run a going out of business event.

PMP was hired in the beginning of the year and the sale began in March. The sale should conclude by the end of May. Says Ron Cooper, director of sales for PMP, "It's very sad to let go of a store like Stone that has serviced so many customers over the last four decades," said Ron Cooper, PMP's director of sales. "We are all working very hard to not only sell all of the inventory but to also assist in the selling of this unique building."

PMP has been assisting furniture retailers all over the country for the last 25 years by running profitable sales events.

Magniflex Growing Designer Program

By Home Furnishings Business in Bedding on June 7, 2010

Italian bedding manufacturer Magniflex announced that more than 100 designers have become Magniflex affiliates after launching its Interior Designer Affiliate Program at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair last month.

Magniflex is expanding the discount program for designers to include additional discounts for retailers seeking to partner with designers in their local market.

"Designers have been frequenting Magniflex and other luxury bedding brands because their clients are looking for bedding that is both unique and rich in performance features," said Marco Magni, global sales director for Magniflex. "They no longer want an anonymous white rectangle, but rather enjoy and appreciate the benefits of our aromatherapy products or our very distinctive 'metals' collection of silver, gold and platinum."

The program offers designers and retailers wholesale prices on a full range of eco-friendly mattress collections for three months, followed by 30-percent discount thereafter. Now, any retailers who work with a participating designer may receive additional discounts at any time.

More than 80 designers, from designers with celebrity clientele to a retailer who ordered GeoEthic mattresses for the designer of a boutique hotel in New York, from across the United States and Canada signed on with the discount program during ICFF.

Designers are invited to visit the Magniflex showroom at 59 Crosby St. in Manhattan with clients to sample the company's range of environmentally-friendly, specialty mattresses and pillows. Outside of New York, Magniflex is available at retail locations nationwide, and select retail dealers are listed in the online Showroom Locator feature.
