Elaine Williamson Designs Lands 5 Contracts; Starts LEED Division

By Home Furnishings Business in Business Strategy on August 25, 2010

Consider this a great month in the home furnishings and interior design business.

Dallas-based Elaine Williamson Designs, which specializes in high-end residential and commercial interior design, has secured five new home and business interior design contracts within the past 30 days.

Along with that news, the company has started a LEED AP accredited residential and commercial interior design division in response to increased demand and to serve its growing client base.

The one commercial project for North Texas Spine and Sport entails a redesign for a doctor's personal office and four patient rooms. This contract is a continuation of the company€™s prior engagement with Texas Spine and Sport that is now complete, where Elaine Williamson Designs redesigned the medical office€™s exterior façade, lobby and lounge areas.

Combined, the four contracted home projects encompass nearly every residential space, including entry/foyer, office, bathroom, dining room, breakfast area, kitchen, sitting room, family room and formal living room.

€œDespite the economic downturn, 2010 has been a very busy year for our firm,€ said Elaine Williamson, principal. €œThis flurry of new residential and commercial contracts€”all referral based€”further validate that our highly customized, client-centric design methodology, distinctive style sensibility and work ethic is resonating within the local marketplace.€

With burgeoning demand for €œgreen design€ solutions within the marketplace, Elaine Williamson Designs has also formerly launched its new LEED AP Accredited residential and commercial interior design division spearheaded by ASID Allied Member Joanna Jackson, a LEED Accredited interior design professional for new construction as well as building construction and design.

As the division head, Jackson is charged with cultivating the company's green project portfolio. In addition to driving residential and commercial client acquisition initiatives, Joanna and her team also execute eco-conscious interior design and redesign projects from start to finish. LEED Team design coordinator Kathleen Boykin also oversees related vendor and contractor relations.

Biltmore, Belk Renew Licensing Partnership

By Home Furnishings Business in Business Strategy on August 25, 2010 The Biltmore licensing division has renewed its 5-year partnership with Belk, the Charlotte, N.C.-based department store, for another five years.

Belk originally joined Biltmore as a licensing partner in 2005, focusing on home textiles and bringing its first Biltmore products to market in 2006. Since then, the partnership has grown to be Biltmore's most in-depth, offering a full range of luxury products for the home.

"The partnership has far exceeded our shared performance goals for the initial term of the licensing agreement," said Belk vice president of product development Chris Eliason. "Working together, Belk and Biltmore have developed a track record of challenging each other to extend our business partnership in creative ways, and we are happy to extend that record into the future."

This fall Belk will unveil a number of Biltmore products including bedding, china, Mother-of-Pearl serveware and a wide range of holiday products.

"Our collaboration with Belk demonstrates just how fruitful a partnership can be when it is leveraged as completely as we have been able to accomplish here," said Tim Rosebrock, vice president and general manager of Biltmore's licensing division. "The team at Belk is great to work with, and the extension of this partnership is an extremely important component of Biltmore's overall growth strategy."

Belk operates 306 stores in 16 Southern states and was founded in 1888. Biltmore's licensing division was started in 1990 and draws inspiration from the historical treasures found in the Asheville, N.C.-located Biltmore House and Gardens.

Current Biltmore licensees in the home furnishings industry include Artaissance, Capel Rugs, ELK Lighting, Encore/Sarreid, Habersham, HFI Brands, Oriental Accent, Ridgeway Clock Co., and Whitecraft.

Lorts Partners with Atlanta Designer for Furniture Collection

By Home Furnishings Business in Case Goods on August 25, 2010 Lorts Manufacturing has signed an agreement with an Atlanta-based interior designer to create a furniture collection set for introduction in 2011.

The designer, Christy Dillard of Dillard Design, will work with Lorts to create the Christy Dillard collection that will incorporate classic silhouettes with unexpected details, bold color and styling selections with a contemporary perspective.

€œWe are eager to have Christy bring her fresh point of view and distinctive aesthetic to the marketplace through a new and proprietary collection of furniture for Lorts,€ said Ty Lorts, president of Lorts.  €œWe are confident that a recognized and successful interior designer like Christy will be an inspiration to designers that love our line, and that the collaboration will complement and add depth to Lorts€™ strong existing line.€

For more than 17 years, Dillard has worked to create spaces that combine classic details with elements that reflect the evolving nature of design. A graduate of Auburn University and a member of ASID, Dillard is involved in the Southeastern interior design community and has participated in the Atlanta Symphony Associates Decorator's Show House several years.

Her work has appeared in several publications, including Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles; Atlanta Magazine's HOME; Better Homes and Garden's Window & Wall Ideas; Today's Custom Home; and the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

"My design aesthetic pulls from many influences, ranging from traditional to contemporary, and I will be bringing that to Lorts with this new collection," Dillard said. "A mixture of materials is used to bring a unique flair to the collection, appealing to many different clients. The look is fresh but will have a timeless quality that I like to use for all projects."
