Furniture factory orders tumbled 10% in September, the first monthly decline in more than a year, according to the latest monthly survey from the Smith Leonard accounting and consulting firm.
Discount retailer Big Lots (NYSE: BIG) said sales edged up 0.5% to $1.11 billion in the quarter ended Oct. 28, and its net income more than tripled due to an insurance settlement.
La-Z-Boy (NYSE: LZB) said profits rose 10% to $22.9 million or 47 cents per share in the quarter ended Oct. 28 on a 4.4% jump in sales.
Leather upholstery producer Natuzzi (NYSE: NTZ) said third-quarter sales fell 6.1% and its net loss nearly doubled to 10.9 million euros, or about $13 million, due to delivery delays and weakness in its Softaly private label division.
Retailer Williams-Sonoma (NYSE: WSM), parent company of Pottery Barn, West Elm and several other retail formats, said third-quarter earnings edged up 2.8% to $71.3 million or 84 cents per share as its e-commerce and brick-and-mortar businesses continued to grow.
Stanley Furniture (NASDAQ: STLY) cut its third-quarter net loss to $305,000 or 2 cents per share as sales fell 5.5% to $10.4 million.
Nova Lifestyle (NASDAQ: NVFY), parent company of Diamond Sofa and several other brands, said third-quarter net income soared to $2.96 million of 11 cents per share as the company began implementing its “asset light” business model following the sale of its manufacturing operations earlier this year.
