United Furniture Looks to Expand

New details about a proposed economic development project suggest that United Furniture Industries may be expanding once again.

Project Combined II, an unnamed manufacturing company, is considering making improvements to two properties adjacent to United Furniture's main complex located off of Hackney Street in Lexington, according to government notices released Wednesday.

Davidson County and Lexington officials will hold public hearings next month about purchasing the properties for the company, so long as it maintains a certain amount of jobs and makes property improvements.

The county and city made a very similar incentive agreement in 2010 with United Furniture, which was also originally identified as Project Combined before announcing it was locating in the former Stanley Furniture warehouse facility.
