Ed Walsh Dies at 72

Longtime furniture industry executive Edward J. Walsh has died after a long fight with a rare form of cancer. He was 72.

Walsh, a graduate of Georgetown University who also served in the Marine Corps, began his furniture career in 1969 as a sales representative, working the New York territory for Drexel Furniture; and the North Carolina/South Carolina territory for Schnadig Corp.

From there, he moved into sales management for Stanley Furniture; and then served as vice president of sales at Tell City ChairFairmont Designs and, most recently, Leda Furniture.

Well respected by sales representatives and furniture retailers, Walsh served on the board of directors for the American Furniture Manufacturers Association (now the American Home Furnishings Alliance).

He was an avid hunter, fisherman and boating enthusiast.

Walsh is survived by his wife, Cathy Walsh; children Beth Dennison, Susan Kruse, Edward G. Walsh , Krista Willson and Melanie Pegram; his sister, Kate Burke; and six grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family is creating an Ed Walsh memorial fund, which will contribute to several charities, including research for neuroendocrine carcinoid and St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Checks should be payable to Cathy Walsh; and sent to Ed Walsh Memorial Fund, ℅ Madison Marquette, 532 Governor Morrison St., Suite 200, Charlotte, N.C. 28211.
