Former Universal Rep Barry Barto Dies

Former Universal Furniture representative Barry Barto, 69, of Emmaus, Pa., died Sept. 8 in Lehigh Valley Hospital Inpatient Hospice.
He was a rep for Universal for more than 24 years, serving territories throughout the Northeast, before retiring last year. He was a member of St. John’s U.C.C., Emmaus. Barto volunteered with the Emmaus Ambulance Corp for 20 years and served as the mayor of Emmaus from 1994 to 1997.
Barto also was the winner of the International Home Furnishings Representatives Association's first lapel pin contest in 2012 and a member of the Tri-State Home Furnishings Association chapter.
He was the husband of Donna P. (Weaver) Barto, with whom he celebrated 46 years of marriage on Jan. 28. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Wayne W. and May (Eck) Barto. Barry graduated from Emmaus High School and Dickinson College.
Memorial services are scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 21, at 9:30 a.m. at St. John’s U.C.C., 139 N. 4th St., Emmaus.
