Knoll announces the reintroduction of the Brigadier Sofa Collection by Cini Boeri, bringing a design icon back for a new generation. Brigadier reflects Boeri's distinctive architectural approach to design and embodies her signature juxtapositions: balancing structure and softness, alongside innovation and practicality.
Originally designed nearly 50 years ago in 1978, the collection's return reinforces the Knoll commitment to offering timeless designs that remain relevant for evolving lifestyles. This revival carries on Boeri's design vision, while updating proportions and introducing a rich new palette, including a new Midnight Blue lacquer finish and an extensive array of upholstery options.
An influential Italian architect and designer, Boeri created work grounded in an understanding of how interiors influence the way people feel and interact, and the belief that they should inspire joy. She designed furniture that could be truly lived in, bringing comfort and character to everyday life.
"Boeri's contribution to Knoll is indelible. Brigadier is a radically simplified design object, and one of the first designs that that drew from reductivist art practices of the 60s and 70s, anticipating the elemental forms that shape today's interiors," commented Jonathan Olivares, Knoll Creative Director. "Beyond furniture, her 1976 Knoll Paris showroom on Boulevard Saint Germain showroom is a landmark of design and still stands today."
A departure from Boeri's earlier designs, Brigadier stands out through its highly structured frame. Exemplifying the Knoll philosophy of total design, Brigadier's monumental, sculptural presence anchors the room while remaining in dialogue with it. Its lacquer finishes reflect its surroundings, and its low profile promotes openness and uninterrupted sightlines. The collection includes two sofa sizes—a two-seat and three-seat option—and a lounge chair.
