FLOS Announces a New Chapter in Iconic Collaboration

Flos, the historic Italian high-end lighting company, and Michael Anastassiades, the internationally renowned London-based designer, announce a significant new chapter in their collaboration, which began more than a decade ago and has produced some of contemporary design’s most iconic projects.

Flos welcomes into its universe an extensive portfolio of lighting products that the designer has developed and distributed to date under his eponymous brand.

This marks a new phase in the relationship between Flos and the designer, grounded in the celebration of a design legacy of extraordinary importance. It represents the natural evolution of a strong partnership built on profound mutual respect and a shared commitment to the core values of design culture.

While fully respecting the identity of the Anastassiades collections and their distinctive creative language, Flos will integrate a selection of these designs into its catalogue, manufacturing and distributing them while continuing to expand their global reach.

Piero Gandini, executive chairman and artistic supervisor of the Flos B&B Italia Group, commented, “The inclusion of Michael Anastassiades’ heritage collection in the FLOS catalogue is the natural consequence of a collaboration that began more than ten years ago and has produced beautiful projects and great successes. Michael’s memory lamps are the completion of a collaboration aimed at future milestones.”

Michael Anastassiades commented, “Since its start in 2011, my collaboration with Flos has become an important part of my practice as a lighting designer. Now it feels like a natural progression that the pieces I have developed under my own name over the past twenty years will continue with Flos.”

A creative partnership spanning over a decade
Michael Anastassiades is a Cypriot-born, London-based designer whose practice encompasses product, spatial interventions and experimental works, often transcending the distinctions between different fields of creativity. With a career spanning more than 20 years, Anastassiades has conceived lights, furniture and objects characterized by a poetic yet rigorous interpretation of technology, materials and functions. Anastassiades’ practice contemplates both industrial production and artisan techniques.

His work draws inspiration from many sources. From nature to archaic references of his native Cyprus, the history of Modernism, very personal memories, art and everyday life, he transforms a rich set of diverse references into a timeless vocabulary of form and structure.

The collaboration between Michael Anastassiades and Flos began in 2011 after a meeting with Piero Gandini, the second-generation leader of the historic family-run company. Two projects destined to leave a mark on the lighting design landscape emerged in a remarkably short time: String Lights and IC Lights were launched in 2013. The first collection introduced a novel take on the electrical cable, engaging it in a dialogue with the geometry of the space and transforming it from a technical element into a decorative component that gives the user creative freedom in composition.

The second, which has since evolved into a wide range of models and finishes for indoor and outdoor use, revitalized the familiar, archetypal form of the sphere worldwide by poetically freezing it in motion atop a slender stem, in a state of near-precarious balance.

Building on the great success of these first projects, the collaboration continued with ongoing experimentation, giving rise to a series of new collections that quickly became points of reference in the sector. In 2015, Captain Flint was unveiled: a balanced synthesis of essential geometry and premium materials, later developed into various floor and wall models for indoor and outdoor settings.

Three years later, in 2018, Flos commissioned Anastassiades to reinterpret “Cocoon,” the iconic material that defined the company’s very beginnings; the result was Overlap, a suspension lamp with a strong sculptural presence. That same year also saw the debut of Arrangements, a decorative lighting system featuring luminous geometric shapes configurable in a multitude of combinations and resembling precious suspended jewelry.

Coordinates was introduced in 2019, an innovative modular system composed of lines of light that extend like Cartesian axes, creating visually striking compositions. The same year Flos and Michael presented My Circuit, a revolutionary flexible track system in white rubber that traces sinuous paths across the ceiling, to which coordinated spotlights or suspension lamps can be attached at any point to provide functional or ambient light, depending on usage requirements.

Finally, for the Salone del Mobile.Milano 2025, at the Flos stand and coinciding with Piero Gandini’s return to the helm of the Flos B&B Italia Group, Michael Anastassiades presented the first prototype of Linked, a new system of luminous glass chains that further develops the theme of modularity and light as a tool capable of defining and transforming a space.

The introduction of the first three Michael Anastassiades models into the Flos catalogue
For the Fall 2026 sales campaign, Flos presents the new Flos editions of three iconic models from the Michael Anastassiades portfolio: the delightful Tip of the Tongue table lamp, recognised around the world; Relay, a refined floor lamp with essential lines; and Frame, a functional ceiling lamp characterized by a geometric grid structure.

For their introduction into the catalogue, Flos has overseen their reinterpretation and engineering, applying the most rigorous criteria for adaptation to industrial production while preserving intact the formal language, expressive quality and design vision that have determined their success.

Tip of the Tongue is a table lamp that features an interesting illusion: a luminous mouth-blown opaline sphere appears to roll down the edge of a solid polished brass base.

This delicate gesture of a sphere poised on the edge of the surface evokes the familiar phenomenon of failing to retrieve a word from memory, expressing a moment of tension in the form of the design.

Relay is a floor lamp that proposes an interchangeable lighting solution attached to a marble block. The exercise is an attempt to provide minimal support for the linear lighting elements through the simple gesture of touching the marble base with an invisible  magnetic connection. The result is a distilled composition of basic elements.

FRAME is a suspension lamp that reimagines the window as a sculptural framework, creating a suspended illuminated pendant that evokes a sense of fluidity and transformation in both form and light.

Referencing the ubiquitous office ceiling light, known for its functional, box-like form, and drawing inspiration from Ellsworth Kelly’s Window series, Frame 3x3 emphasises strong horizontality within a precise grid format, with an open square structure organized according to a 3×3 grid, diffusing a warm, dimmable light.

Slim recessed LED strips create the illusion of light flowing across the polished aluminum structures, transforming them into suspended thresholds, neither entirely solid nor completely immaterial.

Frame is made of polished chrome-plated aluminum and incorporates a plug-in LED module.
