Visual Comfort & Co. & Champalimaud Design Introduce New Lighting Collection

Champalimaud Design, the New York-based interior design studio committed to creating transformative spaces and products across the residential, hospitality and wellness spheres, unveils new additions to its lighting collection with Visual Comfort & Co. Launching at Fall 2026 High Point Market, the collection introduces four new lighting families and nine designs, with pieces available for shipment in Q1 2027.

The launch marks the next chapter in Champalimaud Design’s collaboration with Visual Comfort, following its best-selling debut Brindille and Lomme collections and multiple line extensions. Developed over nearly two years, the new designs expand the studio’s lighting offering, with a particular focus on portable lighting. Rooted in Champalimaud Design’s Portuguese heritage, the collection draws inspiration from the country’s architecture, decorative traditions and materiality.

Courtney Brannan, principal at Champalimaud Design, comments, “Champalimaud’s Portuguese heritage has always influenced the way we approach design, with a deep appreciation for craftsmanship, materiality, and timeless form. Champalimaud for Visual Comfort celebrates the architectural character of Portugal, translating its historic materials, finishes, and enduring beauty into contemporary lighting pieces designed to bring a lasting sense of place to any interior.”

The collection pays homage to Portugal’s centuries-old tradition of filigree, an intricate form of decorative metalwork characterized by delicate, lace-like patterns. Its flowing curves and looped motifs inform the sculptural contours of the designs’ ironwork. Ceramic forms also feature throughout, finished in specialty glazes with a palette inspired by the country’s iconic tilework.

“What makes Champalimaud’s lighting so compelling is the balance between familiar forms and distinctive details,” says Charles Neal, Executive Vice President of Visual Comfort & Co, and maker behind Visual Comfort’s Signature Collection. “In this collection, expressive table lamp silhouettes, rich glazed finishes, and sculptural metalwork give each design its own character, while carefully considered proportions allow the pieces to sit naturally within a room. That balance gives designers lighting with a strong point of view and the versatility to work across a range of interiors.”

The collection consists of four new lighting families:

Coimbra takes its inspiration from the historic city. The cordless accent lamp balances heritage with modern living, pairing a softly sculpted silhouette with a warm metallic or alabaster base that echoes the city’s timeless architecture. Simple, elegant and versatile, it brings a contemporary element to the interior while celebrating a rich sense of place.

Nuvem, meaning “cloud,” features soft, layered forms inspired by drifting clouds. Comprising a cordless accent lamp and a larger table lamp, the family is offered in timeless glazed finishes, bringing a sense of warmth, softness and effortless elegance to complement a wide range of interiors.

Aveiro draws inspiration from the coastal city, where Art Nouveau architecture, historic ironwork and Roman influences converge. The larger table lamp reimagines traditional urn forms and refined metal detailing through a contemporary lens, celebrating the city’s rich architectural heritage.

Alvorada, meaning “early morning light,” takes cues from traditional wrought-iron street lanterns, reinterpreted through a contemporary lens with timeless craftsmanship and enduring elegance. The family comprises two table lamps, one floor lamp, one linear chandelier and one sconce.
