On Sept. 19, Houston-based Star Furniture became the first retailer in the nation to launch the new Margaritaville Collection from Hooker Furniture at their Katy store in west Houston. Founded in 1912, Star Furniture has proudly served Texas families for more than a century, building a reputation for trust, loyalty and community connection across generations.
“As Houston’s longest running furniture store, customers have relied on us for more than 100 years to bring them the best new collections to enhance their homes,” said Star Furniture President Richard Jones. “The Margaritaville collection shows them how something that is functional can also be fun, and gives them license to create that feeling in their own spaces.”
Celebration and Community Service
To celebrate the opening, Star went beyond the typical collection celebration and found a way to give back, while educating and entertaining customers who visited.
Community service is one of Star Furniture’s tenets, and it was on full display as Star welcomed the Gulf Center for Sea Turtle Research into the celebration. Guests entered to win exclusive collection designs like the Cruiser Table via a $10 charitable registration benefitting the Galveston-based nonprofit.
“Community service is baked into the Star identity,” said Star Vice President Marketing Michael Galloway. “Supporting the community is not only something we enjoy, but it is our responsibility.”
The organization facilitates research at molecular, population, and ecosystem levels to help restore sea turtle populations.
“The Gulf Center has treated sick and injured turtles since 2019,” said Carolyn Pope, habitat restoration program manager. “Through a combination of hospital care, nest patrols, research, satellite tracking, marine debris removal, and community outreach, we work to restore critically endangered species and train the next generation of conservation leaders.”
