Haynes Furniture & The Dump Going Out of Business After 128 Years

Haynes Furniture and The Dump will close permanently, bringing a 128-year family retail legacy to a close. Going-out-of-business sales begin at October. SB360 Capital Partners, one of the country's leading asset disposition and advisory firms, will assist Haynes Furniture and The Dump in conducting the sales.
"This is a bittersweet ending, filled with gratitude for four generations of customers and employees," said E.J. Strelitz, executive chairman of the family-owned and operated stores. "Thank you to everyone who helped us along the way."
For Strelitz, the farewell is deeply personal. "I've been fortunate to work every day alongside a close-knit family of associates in our Haynes showrooms, The Dump Luxe Furniture Outlets, our Williamsburg distribution center, and our flagship store and headquarters on Virginia Beach Boulevard," he said. "Now, I look forward to a new chapter with more time to give back to the communities my forebears loved and appreciated so deeply."
Strelitz also emphasized the company's appreciation for its employees. "We are committed to standing by our associates, whether they are joining me in a well-deserved retirement or going on to bigger and better opportunities," he said.
The Haynes story began on Grace Street in Richmond and Main Street in Norfolk. Through generations of family leadership and the tireless work of dedicated employees, the business built its reputation on value, service, and strong community ties.
Mr. Strelitz's grandparents Ellis and Minnie helped make Haynes "good people to deal with." The next generation — Leonard and Buddy Strelitz with Tom Hofheimer — carried that promise forward through purchasing strength, operating excellence, and a simple principle: treat employees and customers the way you would want to be treated yourself.
"They always believed in giving customers more value for their money and generously sharing their success with the community," said Strelitz. "That philosophy has guided us ever since."
Strelitz, his brother-in-law David Brand, and a team of even more talent later created The Dump Luxe Furniture Outlet, bringing the off-price retail model to furniture through famous-brand closeouts, overstocks, and exceptional deals.
"Along the way, and into the future, we hope to continue contributing to Virginia," said Strelitz. "It's not just business; it's personal. We wish our furniture makers, our competitors and the entire home furnishings industry every success in the years ahead."
"Of course, when people think of Haynes and The Dump, they think of A SALE! So, Virginia, we're making our last sale ever, one you'll never forget," said Strelitz. "The going-out-of-business sale will feature an extensive assortment of brand-name furniture, mattresses, and rugs, with substantial savings and further markdowns throughout the liquidation. It's our final thank-you for generations of loyalty and support"
"Yes, Virginia, we are going out of business and closing forever," he added. "And yes, it's our biggest sale ever!"
"Generations of Virginians have trusted Haynes for quality and value, and The Dump Luxe Furniture Outlets made luxury brands accessible at outlet prices," said Aaron Miller, President of SB360 Capital Partners. "This sale brings the best of both together one last time. Customers will find everything from national bestsellers to one-of-a-kind luxury pieces across Haynes and The Dump stores in Virginia, all at significant savings. It's a rare chance to furnish a home with brands Virginians have trusted for generations, at a fraction of what they'd normally pay."
