AHFA Announces Third Annual National Furniture Safety Week

The American Home Furnishings Alliance (AHFA) announces the third annual National Furniture Safety Week is October 5-10. The public awareness campaign is designed to engage all segments of the home furnishings industry in promoting consumer awareness of common home safety issues.

Companies that have not yet signed up to participate can still join the nationwide effort by pledging their support and agreeing to help promote the campaign’s safety messages.

AHFA launched Furniture Safety Week in 2024 to unify the industry behind its efforts to educate consumers about common household hazards that involve furniture.

“There is no cost to participate, but there is a tangible benefit to the industry as a whole and to individual companies from supporting this annual campaign,” says Patricia Bowling, AHFA’s vice president of communications. “By increasing awareness of common home safety issues, we can reduce the number of injury-causing incidents involving our industry’s products. And that’s a win for everyone.”

Participating companies receive a toolkit with downloadable logos, social media graphics and more. There is no cost for using any of the Furniture Safety Week assets.

In addition to sharing simple ways to improve home safety, the campaign helps shine a spotlight on the proactive role the home furnishings industry plays in developing and maintaining effective product safety standards. Under the leadership of AHFA, the industry advocates for product regulations that provide the greatest degree of safety for the greatest number of American consumers.

“Through Furniture Safety Week, the home furnishings industry joins forces with consumer safety organizations, particularly those dedicated to protecting children, to fill the information gap and amplify furniture safety messages,” Bowling says. Furniture Safety Week collaborators include Parents Against Tip-overs, the Baby Safety Alliance, CertiPUR-US, Charlie’s House and the International Association for Child Safety, among others.

Five Ways to Support Furniture Safety Week

For companies participating for the first time, AHFA offers these five easy, no-cost steps to prepare for next month’s campaign:

  1. Sign up as a Furniture Safety Week participant. Companies that have not yet joined the campaign can complete the Furniture Safety Week sign-up form to be added to the participant list. Participants receive the 2026 Furniture Safety Week logo and additional graphics for sharing with employees, customers and consumers. Companies already registered should watch for additional campaign tools coming soon.
  2. Spread the word! Manufacturers and importers can let retail partners know their company is supporting Furniture Safety Week and can encourage them to join the campaign. Participating retailers can notify their local media outlets, provide information and training for sales associates and plan to include Furniture Safety Week messages on their social platforms October 5-10.
  3. Engage employees. Make employees aware of your company’s participation and encourage them to help amplify Furniture Safety Week messages through their own social media channels.
  4. Review your website’s furniture safety information. Make sure furniture safety content on your website is current, clearly communicates your company’s commitment to safe products and explains safety standards in language consumers will understand. Companies without a dedicated furniture safety page should consider adding one as part of their 2027 website plans. Suggested content is available by emailing AHFA.

Review online product descriptions. Most consumers research furniture purchases online before making a buying decision. As a result, product descriptions have never been more important. Review descriptions for products that are subject to mandatory safety standards, such as bunk beds and clothing storage furniture. Make sure appropriate safety information is included. Again, sample language is available by emailing AHFA.
