Risk Assurance Partners Announces Nationwide Launch of FurnitureRX

Risk Assurance Partners (RAP), a leading provider and administrator of furniture protection programs for more than 15 years, announced the nationwide launch of FurnitureRx subscription programs, the furniture industry’s first subscription-based protection plan developed specifically for furniture retailers.

This new program gives dealers something they have never had before: a $19.99-per-month protection plan option that merchandises alongside their existing multi-year protection program, costs the dealer nothing, requires no new dealer contract, pays recurring monthly commissions to dealers and qualifies for producer owned reinsurance programs.  And it arrives as furniture retailers are already competing with subscription protection online.

“Amazon is already selling monthly furniture protection,” said Dan DeBonville, Sr Vice President of Sales, Risk Assurance Partners. “FurnitureRx gives furniture dealers their own subscription option — except now the dealer keeps the guest relationship, earns the recurring revenue and can participate in the reinsurance economics.”

Turning a Protection Plan “No” Into Another Opportunity

Traditional multi-year protection programs remain an important part of furniture retail offerings, but roughly 70% of shoppers decline protection.  FurnitureRx subscription programs give sales associates a second type of protection program to offer.

If a guest declines a traditional multi-year protection plan because of the price or its multi-year commitment, the associate can offer protection for $19.99 per month, cancel, stop, start at any time. Subscription can also be offered first when it better fits the shopper or the purchase, including younger families, budget-conscious guests and lower-priced transactions.

“Multi-year isn’t going away, and we don’t want it to,” DeBonville said. “FurnitureRx subscription plans are an alternative way to buy. If the guest wants the traditional multiyear plan, sell it. If they decline or a monthly fee is a better fit, you now have another way to get to yes.”

A single FurnitureRx subscription covers eligible furniture, outdoor, rugs, adjustable beds, mattresses and lamps in one plan.  Dealers Pay $0 — And Get Paid Every Month

There is no cost to participate and there are no new contracts.  Guests pay their $19.99 monthly subscription through Stripe. Each time a successful monthly payment is processed, the dealer earns a recurring commission that is deposited by Stripe directly through Stripe.  That means one subscription sale can continue producing revenue for the retailer month after month.  “Just 200 new subscriptions per month and generate more than $1 million in cumulatively dealer commissions over 36 months, before cancellations and other adjustments.  Most protection programs create revenue only when the program is sold,” DeBonville said. “FurnitureRx subscription programs generate reoccurring commission from a guest you already acquired.”

Subscription Protection Changes the Reinsurance Economics

FurnitureRx is also the first furniture subscription protection program that qualifies for dealer reinsurance programs.  Instead of generating a single reserve contribution from the guest, a subscription plan can generate additional reinsurance funding with each successful monthly payment.

Based on RAP dealer program averages, a traditional multi-year protection guest generates approximately $30 in reinsurance reserves, while a FurnitureRx subscriber making 36 payments can generate approximately $288 — 9.6 times as much over the subscription period.  Reserve funds generally earn in full 30 days after each subscription payment.

“For dealers with reinsurance, this is where subscription becomes especially powerful,” DeBonville said. “You can earn recurring commissions at the store level while creating recurring profit to your reinsurance program.”

Furniture Protection Is Going Subscription

Subscription commerce is already familiar to guests, and furniture protection is beginning to follow.  Amazon currently offers monthly furniture protection subscriptions directly to guests, putting traditional furniture retailers in competition with the model today.

“The subscription shift isn’t something dealers need to prepare for five years from now,” DeBonville said. “It is happening now, FurnitureRx gives dealers a way to participate in it instead of watching that recurring revenue go somewhere else.”

FurnitureRx is available nationwide now.
