Founder Janet Feldman has years of experience in product development and manufacturing, and she pivoted from retirement to spearhead a years-long collaboration with gerontologists, orthopedists, and international industrial designers to develop the AWEchair. Janet set out to create a modern interpretation of the classic club chair, balancing ergonomic comfort with timeless elegance and design. Drawing on the sculptural curves and grounded proportions of Art Deco and mid-century forms, the result is a beautiful and functional power-lift recliner, more decor object than furniture, that signals a new era in accessible design.

From the outset, engineering and design were inextricably linked. The AWEchair's working positions, sequences, and patented retractable footrest were conceived simultaneously, ensuring that the mechanical and aesthetic elements worked in perfect synergy. This holistic approach guided every decision, from the internal mechanism to the external upholstery.

The AWEchair is handcrafted in North Carolina and a testament to meticulous craftsmanship and unwavering attention to detail. From selecting supple Italian leathers and exquisite synthetic alternatives to collaborating with skilled metalworkers on the design of the understated cupholder and foot molds (securing eight patents in the process), every element was carefully considered to elevate the chair's overall design.
