King-Hudson, an investment-grade mid-century modern furniture shop and services establishment, opened its doors this summer at 37 Westwood Ave. in Westwood. The showroom features handmade and rare pieces, and a range of professional offerings, including restoration, consignment and staging for real estate, events and productions. With a focus on education, King-Hudson has established a period design research library – a first-of-its-kind for the region – and educational programming catered to professionals and DIY hobbyists.
This distinctive Bergen County business is the vision of Owner Michelle King-Hudson, a leading restoration expert and long-time collector of rare mid-century modern furniture, lighting and decor. King-Hudson has developed a strong following in northern New Jersey for her excellence in restoring older homes. She draws on a deep background as a classically trained figurative painter and unique career experiences, including restoring original murals, plaster walls and woodwork in centuries-old churches.
King-Hudson’s inaugural for-sale furniture collection includes pieces by famed designers Mies Van de Rohe, Edward Wormly, Milo Baughman, John Hutton and Adrian Pearsall. Shoppers will also find vintage lighting originals by Robert Sonneman and Moss Lamps. King-Hudson’s inventory also features impressive handmade and Amish quilts, a rainbow of original granny blankets, and handblown Murano and Venetian glass. Russel Wright ceramic platters and an array of vintage original pottery are also available.
“King-Hudson was conceived to celebrate the lasting appeal of and demand for rare, high-end, mid-century modern furniture and its quality aesthetic,” said King-Hudson. “Our furniture is either newly discovered in mint condition or restored to like-new. You will not find replica pieces here – our inventory is vintage. And we are a great resource all-things mid-century modern furnishing, offering expertise for buyers and sellers, to any professional involved in design, the built space or investment advisement. King-Hudson is so much more than a retail store.”
The Westwood showroom's summer hours (through August) are Tuesday through Saturday, from noon to 7 p.m.; walk-ins and appointments are welcome.
