HAY Introduces Accessories Collection by Doshi Levien

After the Chisel Lounge Chair by Norwegian designer Andreas Bergsaker, HAY is delighted to present the Chisel Collection - a contemporary yet timeless assortment for any indoor environment.
The Chisel Collection has evolved from a molded plywood chair into a family of considered pieces: a dining chair, a stool and two bar stools, as well as round, rectangular and extendable tables. Early on, the potential for a dining chair became apparent - an intuitive next step that emerged naturally from the strength and clarity of the original design extending a single product into a full range.’
’When we had the first sample review of Chisel Lounge Chair, Rolf asked me if I had thought about a dining version,’ says Bergsaker of his conversation with Rolf Hay, HAY Cofounder. ‘I had, so I picked up my phone and showed him a visualization. From there, I just kept going. Having worked with HAY for six years at that time, I wasn’t new to the exercise of extending a single product into a full range.’
Named after the traditional carpentry tool, subtle chisel inspired details are echoed throughout - seen in the angled, beveled legs that give each piece a sculptural silhouette and a strong, consistent structural identity across typologies. ‘The Chisel Lounge Chair was a success from the beginning,’ says Hay. Although the Chisel Dining Chair and Bar Stool have a relatively big volume, they are still very light and easy to arrange around a table. The back and the seat are rounded and organic, but the legs are razor sharp.’
The same attention to detail and comfort is expressed in the Chisel Table Collection, offered in 10 sizes across four different typologies - round with legs, round with column base, rectangular, and extendable. ‘I wanted to use the same sturdy framework as the lounge chair, bringing the legs all the way out to the corners and allowing it to pair with a thin tabletop,’ says Bergsaker. The result is a natural companion to the seating - grounded and harmonious, unassuming in footprint yet confident in presence.
The new Chisel seating items are available in oak, walnut and lacquered beech, with a wide range of upholstery options for the seat and backrest. The tables come in clear lacquered and black lacquered oak. Across the collection, all pieces are crafted in solid wood, plywood and MDF - making Chisel equally at home in living rooms and kitchens as in bars, cafés and libraries.
