Bassett Furniture Plans Modern Showroom at Fall HPMKT

Bassett Furniture will open its new modern showroom in High Point this fall. The company is making a significant investment in an entirely new 44,000-square-foot space on the first and second floors of the IHFC to better reflect the brand’s current expression to all of its market segments and clearly communicate where the brand is headed in the future.

According to Rob Spilman, Jr., president and chief executive officer, the move was necessary because Bassett’s business has grown and evolved to serve multiple constituencies in the industry. “We needed to align with the Market’s traffic patterns and reimagine our High Point space to better reach all Market attendees, from independent furniture retailers and designers to hospitality and outdoor buyers, enabling more people to discover our brand.”

“The interior design community is a key segment that we want to partner with more fully,” said Robert Spilman, III. “Along with our own store network, and the leading retailers we sell on the open market, designers are best positioned to connect with consumers, and we offer every asset necessary to make working with Bassett a profitable endeavor for them.”

The new designer-friendly showroom (Space M-101) will be accessed from the first floor of the Main wing in the former Lane Venture showroom. Lane Venture will now show inside the Bassett showroom on the second floor.

The extensive renovations currently underway include the construction of the new staircase and the removal of multiple columns along with the exterior cladding that have long surrounded the IHFC’s second floor. The renovation has already revealed surprises, including the discovery that the building’s original floor-to-ceiling windows on the second floor still existed. Bassett is fully restoring them on both the Main and Wrenn Street sides of the showroom to flood its new showroom space with natural light.

“That kind of attention to detail is very important to interior designers in particular, and creates a fresh, welcoming space for everyone we serve,” said Vice President of Sales, Robert Spilman, III. “It’s critical for us to be in front of every channel that sells home furnishings today, and from our customization capabilities to our merchandising and breadth of assortment, everyone who visits will get a much more accurate sense of who we are, where we are going and all of our stylish and upscale offerings.”

“We would not be undertaking this showroom project unless we strongly believed in the viability of the High Point Market and what it brings to the table on multiple levels,” Rob Spilman said. “It has changed mightily in my time and yet remains the epicenter of the industry. It’s important we do everything we can to make it the best experience the industry can provide, and I think we’re putting our best foot forward to do that, not only for the betterment of our company, but to ensure the Market remains viable and important for many years to come.”
