IKEA Introduces Next Chapter of Collaboration with Ilse Crawford

The next chapter of the long-standing collaboration between Ilse Crawford and IKEA is HALGATT: two table lamps in classic ceramic, linen and brass where Ilse's material sensibility and warmth meet a price point that makes it accessible to more people.

"When I design lamps, I want them to bring warmth and life to a room. The challenge is to capture a classic's qualities – the right proportions, choice of materials and shade, and a timelessness that makes the lamp always feel relevant. My inspiration for HALGATT comes from how we live our lives. They have a versatility that supports the decor rather than dominating it – and are just as suitable in the living room as in a dining room, a bedroom or a work area," says Ilse Crawford.

The two lamps interpret the classic base-and-shade form differently. The first is a white stoneware block, square and architectural, tone-on-tone with an expressive character. The second builds on a cylindrical ceramic base, its warmth playing against a beige linen shade above and a brass dimmer at its side.

"We wanted to offer two expressions of the same idea, with classic materials and earthy tones. One took a more distinctive shape, balanced with a tone-on-tone palette. The other a more traditional cylinder, given depth through its rich, dark glaze. Both unmistakably carry the signature of Ilse, at a price that puts it within reach," says Chiara Ripalti, Lighting Product Developer at IKEA of Sweden.

Both are rooted in the same material language: tactile ceramics with deliberate imperfections, woven linen in earthy natural tones, brass dimmers that let a room shift from bright to atmospheric.

"In my view, good interiors are well-lived-in spaces because they reflect and support the people who live there. But without them being lit, the lamps will continue to be equally aesthetically appealing because they are designed so beautifully," says Ilse Crawford.

HALGATT arrives eleven years after SINNERLIG – the first designer collaboration of its kind at IKEA – and one that prompted a lasting creative relationship between Crawford and the brand. SINNERLIG remains in production today and the pendant lamp is still one of the most appreciated pieces in the IKEA range.
