Design Within Reach Announces Pop-Up Collab with Canyon Coffee for Design Days

Design Within Reach (DWR) announces a new retail experience with Canyon Coffee, debuting at DWR Fulton Market during Design Days in Chicago (June 8 – June 10). This marks Canyon Coffee’s first outpost in Chicago and introduces a design-forward space where guests can connect, and experience coffee culture through the lens of modern design.

Rooted in shared values - craftsmanship, quality, longevity, and a belief in the importance of connection to people and place - DWR and Canyon Coffee have created a space that invites visitors to engage with design in an environment conceived for gathering.

Founded in Los Angeles by Co-Founders Ally Walsh and Casey Wojtalewicz, Canyon Coffee has built a devoted following through building community and its intentional approach to sourcing, roasting, and serving coffee. The Chicago pop-up will translate the brand’s warm, West Coast spirit and key design features to Fulton Market.

“We wanted to create an atmosphere that feels welcoming and grounding, a place where people can experience both coffee and their surroundings in a more thoughtful way,” said Casey Wojtalewicz, co-founder of Canyon Coffee. “It’s important to us that we have personal connections to our design choices and that there are specific reasons behind them,” adds Wojtalewicz. “Our cafe materials evoke special memories from favorite trips or destinations – such as stone inspired by the Portuguese coast or natural woods that are an ode to Northern California forests. Our Chicago Cafe also incorporates a Scandinavian sensibility with Muuto pendants and dining collections. Partnering with DWR allowed us to bring this vision to life in the Windy City.”

The pop-up demonstrates how DWR’s assortment of dining, seating and lighting collections can seamlessly translate across residential and hospitality settings.

“In recent years, DWR’s assortment has grown considerably, encompassing a broader range of modern aesthetics and diversified categories,” adds Propst. “With one of the most comprehensive offerings of contract-grade furniture in the industry, we’re uniquely positioned to help brands realize their full expression - creating spaces that feel immersive, intentional, and true to their vision. We’re excited to showcase this with our Canyon Coffee experience in Chicago.”

For Fulton Market Design Days, the DWR store will feature a special installation for the popup, a series of distinct yet cohesive environments that reflect the versatility of modern living and hospitality spaces. The installation will illustrate how beautifully designed environments enhance everyday rituals, from morning coffee at your desk to collaborative gatherings at a cafe.

Highlights include:

- A refined home office vignette and inviting lounge designed by BassamFellows. Exclusive BassamFellows product designs for DWR are featured throughout, such as the New Canaan Collection from Geiger and the Ramus Collection. Each piece reflects a thoughtful balance of form and function, handcrafted natural materials such as meticulously carved walnut frames and Geiger Textiles’ premium Bristol leather. The vignettes embody the BassamFellows philosophy: modernism grounded in material honesty, comfort, and enduring craft.

- Designed by Sir David Chipperfield, Kasthall’s Tegel Rugs in exclusive DWR colorways can be found in the home office and lounge settings. This was the first rug Chipperfield designed for Kasthall which translates his architectural principles into a hand-tufted bouclé.

- A curation of vinyl and books inspired by Chicago’s storied art, architecture and music scenes further ground the experience in a sense of place, creating a layered environment where visitors can kick back with relaxing music, or flip through a design book for quiet inspiration.

- Inspired by Canyon Coffee’s analog environments and DWR’s recent vinyl activations, the space will feature the HiFi sounds of a Wrensilva Studio Record Console with a music collection curated by Secretly Group + Numero Group featuring Chicago and Illinois musicians new and old — from Jamila Woods and Gia Margaret to The Notations and Miles Davis.

“Sound is a critical element at Canyon Coffee,” adds Wojtalewicz. “We have a rule that we only play albums. Compared to playlists, which often lead to repeats of the same algorithmic songs, we prefer albums because they bring a more coherent sonic atmosphere that lends itself more to discovery.”

During Design Days, Canyon Coffee will have a special menu, including a signature Chicago drink, and will serve complimentary beverages to all visitors. Limited-edition merch, featuring a midcentury inspired design – which references a piece of art from Canyon Coffee’s archives – will also be available for purchase. Starting on June 11, Canyon Coffee will remain open as a limited-time pop-up cafe serving beverages and grab and go offerings from Allez Café and Levain Bakery to the public. As a part of this new partnership, DWR will also now serve Canyon Coffee in stores nationwide.
