The Wanek Foundation Gift “On Angel’s Wings” Memorial

Groundbreaking for Memorial Park’s newest and arguably its most unique and challenging monument addition commenced without a hitch on a sunny and pleasant afternoon this Memorial Day. While Memorial Day is dedicated to honoring those men and women of our nation’s military who made the ultimate sacrifice, the intention of this new monument – referred to as, “On Angels Wings” – is to serve as a poignant reminder of the park’s ongoing commitment to keep all current members of the U.S. military in the thoughts and prayers of its citizenry.

The new monument will be positioned on the east side of Soldiers Walk. It will complement the existing “Angel of Mercy” sculpture that is located on the west side of the walk in honor of our nation’s fallen soldiers.

Standing tall with a 15-foot masonry base, the monument will feature six elegant columns and six descriptive panels with integrated lighting. At its pinnacle will be a striking 17-foot stainless steel guardian angel, polished to a mirror finish that captures the light of its surroundings. This angel is depicted in a dynamic pose, embodying the strength and guidance sought in prayers for our active service members. The monument is meant to serve as a powerful testament to the virtuous soldiers who protect our country, safeguard our liberty, and uphold our way of life.

A gift from the Ronald and Joyce Wanek Foundation and Wanek Family to the City of Arcadia.

Designed by Artist: Ben Golden

Construction by: Wieser Brothers General Contractor

Major completion planned for late summer 2026.
