Remoov & Reperch Help Counter Challenges of Tariff Costs with Affordable Alternative

With 49% of Americans reporting that the cost of living is currently their greatest personal challenge, retailers are looking toward a challenging holiday season, especially those selling furniture.

Since 2020, bedroom furniture costs have gone up by 11%, while the prices of living room, kitchen and dining room furniture have risen a whopping 25%. And recent industry tariffs will only exacerbate the situation.

Second hand furniture organizations offer alternatives for some of the “sticker-shock” Americans are experiencing.

No one knows this better than Luis Perez, founder of secondhand conversion startup Remoov. For nearly a decade, the Remoov team has been collecting, sorting, reselling, donating and recycling used furniture and goods for a fixed fee, returning the profits to the users.

The environmental and community benefits of the circular economy, has the potential to be an effective way to minimize the environmental impact from product manufacturing, which is responsible for a stunning 30% of all our methane gas emissions, as well as offer an alternative to the cost crunch across the industry.

"Since the tariff announcements, demand for used furniture has climbed, especially for known brands like CB2, Restoration Hardware, West Elm, Room & Board, Herman Miller, Article and others.”

“We have seen a 25% year over year uptick in both online and in-person traffic, and that includes not just Gen Z and eco-focused buyers, but across the board. Higher prices for new pieces, driven by tariffs and inflation, and the expectation that new items now cost more across the board, are pushing shoppers to look at more affordable options.”

Perez concluded, “Many large brands prepared for the tariffs by increasing their inventories which has allowed them to delay the retail price hike, but that supply has or will run out soon. In addition, with households' budgets tighter, secondhand is a smart alternative for value-conscious buyers."

While the current economic situation continues to be volatile, and the industry struggles to gain its footing, alternatives like Remoov are an environmentally sound solution for quality furniture.

Remoov is an on-demand pickup and eco-hauling service that makes it easy to declutter responsibly. With one pickup, it collects used items and routes them to the best outcome between resale, donation, or responsible decommissioning, reducing waste while helping you unlock the value of what you no longer need.

Reperch is a leading secondhand furniture and home-goods marketplace that resells items collected by Remoov. The Bay Area, Phoenix and Los Angeles are the current markets where Reperch has a presence, but they are always looking for new areas to expand.
