The Contemporary Design Group (CDG) has announced the winner of the 2025 Edward Haimsohn Design Award during its Annual Conference in Austin, Texas. This year’s top honor was awarded to the Luma Office Collection from BDI, designed by Matthew Weatherly. Bill Becker accepted the award on behalf of BDI.
Luma Office is a modern, highly functional collection created to support a broad range of work styles. With clean lines, refined materials, and precision-engineered features, the collection includes four desks (two sizes, each offered in both lift and stationary versions), two storage pieces, and two adjustable back-panel accessories. Judges praised Luma for its balanced blend of form and function and its thoughtful response to the needs of today’s evolving home office.
The first runner-up was the Nautilus recliner from Himolla, designed by Tamara Haerty. Second runner-up resulted in a three-way tie between Amama seating by Natuzzi (designed by Andrea Steidll), the SM543 sideboard by Skovby (designed by Per Haansbaek), and the Havana occasional tables by Charleston Forge (designed by Wilson Keel).
Additional finalists (listed alphabetically) included: Bubba seating by Thayer Coggin; Comfort Solace by American Leather; Kava bedroom by BDI; Lazy Louise recliner by Indera; Ondea seating by Incanto; Panos table by Theodore Alexander; and the Zara rug by Feizy. A full lookbook and video presentation of all entries are now available on the Contemporary Design Group website.
The Edward Haimsohn Design Award honors manufacturers who produce outstanding and original furniture designs. A panel of anonymous CDG retailer judges evaluated submissions based on originality, creativity, consumer appeal, materials, functionality, and manufacturing execution. Retailer judges noted the exceptional caliber and innovation displayed across this year’s entries.
Past award recipients include the Sagrada Chair by Tarik Tokalija for Mobello, Versus Collection by A. Rasit Karaaslan for Mobi, Soda table by Yiannis Ghikas for Miniforms, Lisse Chair by Tim Copeland for Copeland Furniture, Butterfly Table by nucleo + Studio for Cattelan Italia, Esse 72 Table by Tulcinski for Reflex Spa, Swing Bar by Carl Muller for Elite Modern, Rondo seating by Lucy Kurrein for Molinari Design, Beam Lamp by Francois Caron for Trica Furniture, Caruso audio cabinet by Paolo Capello for Miniforms, and the Corridor media cabinet by Matthew Weatherly for BDI.
